There are currently no details regarding the plot of Ms. Marvel, though concept art implies that Kamala may have different powers than she does in the comics. Meanwhile, a plot synopsis for the series describes Kamala as "a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City" who is "a great student, an avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, who has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel."

Star Vellani also recently discussed the significance of Kamala's existence, with the character being the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first Muslim superhero. "I don’t really have to go out of my way and talk about being a Muslim and being Pakistani — it all comes out in the show," Vellani said. "People seeing a person like me involved in a project as big as this is, I think, inspiring enough."
