Marvel Studios' Disney+ series Ms. Marvel has completed production in Thailand despite the recent resurgence of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

According to Variety, the Thailand shoot was overseen by multiple Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and encompassed Season 1's fourth and fifth episodes. While the third wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Thailand led to city and provincial governors halting movie and TV productions, Ms. Marvel was reportedly able to obtain a waiver and continue shooting from April through to early May "as it was already observing strict anti-virus protocols." Those measures included, but were not limited to, closed sets, mandatory masks and virus testing twice per week.

Created by comic book writer G. Willow Wilson, artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, and editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel first appeared in Aug. 2013's Captain Marvel #14. The synopsis for the Ms. Marvel series confirms the show will carry over Kamala's backstory in Marvel's comic books and reads as follows: "Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, [Kamala] has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel."

In the Marvel Comics Universe, Kamala has Inhuman DNA and gains her powers -- which include being able to massively elongate her limbs and enhanced healing -- after being exposed to a cloud of Terrigen Mist. Inhumans were previously featured on the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans, both of which were developed by the now-defunct Marvel Television. As such, it's unclear if they're still considered to be canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Following Ms. Marvel Season 1, Kamala will cross paths with her personal hero, Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, in the Captain Marvel movie sequel The Marvels. Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau is also confirmed to appear in the 2022 film, having gained super-powers of her own during the events of Disney+'s WandaVision series.

Directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Laurel Marsden, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. The series will stream on Disney+ in late 2021.
