Ms. Marvel is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project to suffer from review-bombing online.

The Marvel Studios series, which premiered on Disney+ on June 8, currently holds a 6.3 out of 10 rating on IMDb, with votes of 1 out of 10 accounting for nearly a quarter of all reviews. While some negative reviews take issue with the series' family-friendly tone compared to other MCU titles and the changes made to Kamala Khan's superpowers, others have been overtly focused on the series' "woke" elements.

Plenty of other MCU films and series have been review-bombed by irate "fans." In 2021, the film Eternals was subject to a slew of negative reviews criticizing the film for its depiction of LGBTQ+ relationships and characters. More recently, the Disney+ series Moon Knight was subject to review bombing regarding its first episode making reference to the Armenian Genocide.

Ms. Marvel is based on the character of the same name created by Sana Amanat, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie. Kamala Khan, better known as the titular Ms. Marvel, first appeared in 2013's Captain Marvel #14. The character made her proper introduction as her super heroic alter-go the following year in Wilson and Alphona's "Garden State of Mind" from the pages of the oversized All-New Marvel NOW! Point One. From there, it was only a matter of objectively little time before Kamala became one of Marvel's biggest breakout stars.

Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani, who herself is a lifelong Marvel fan, as the show's main hero. Amanat commented on the realization that Vellani was right for the role during a Zoom audition, saying, "She showed me every corner of her room, and it was covered with Avengers. Then she said, 'Oh wait, I'm not done,' opened up her closet, and there was more Marvel everywhere."

Reception from critics who were given early access to the first two episodes of the series has been overwhelmingly positive, with several comparing it to Spider-Man: Homecoming in terms of tone and energy. Amanat previously promised longtime Ms. Marvel fans that "[t]he comic was very much a guiding light for us. We needed to make sure that it worked in the MCU, of course, but we wanted to make sure that we had that quirkiness and the stylistic distinction that the comics did so well. We wanted to find our own MCU version of it."
