Ms. Marvel's latest promo offers a more explicit look at the series' antagonists, including one familiar face from a recent Marvel film.

Though shown for only a few seconds, the promo, titled "Connected," confirms actor Arian Moayed's return as Agent Cleary of the Department of Damage Control from Spider-Man: No Way Home. The agent can be seen conversing with a colleague over sightings of Kamala Khan's hard light powers, demanding that they "bring her in" for more information. Other scenes depict the agents traversing Jersey City and confronting Kamala in-costume, though whether they are Ms. Marvel's primary villains or setting up a larger threat remains to be seen.

Moayed's Cleary first appeared in No Way Home's first act, in which he interrogated Peter Parker, Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, Ned Leeds and May Parker over Peter's secret identity and involvement in Mysterio's death. The United States Department of Damage Control, however, made its Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, announced as a "joint-venture between Stark Industries and the Federal Government" to salvage any known or discovered alien artifacts that land on Earth. Little intel about the organization's inner workings have been explored beyond those two films, though Gary Weeks, who appeared as DODC Agent Foster, recently expressed interest in a Damage Control show for Disney+.

The DODC's modus operandi offers a plausible connection to Ms. Marvel's retconned origin, with the MCU shifting her power source from Inhuman DNA to a seemingly extraterrestrial family bangle. A recent clip for the show features Kamala (Iman Vellani) and her best friend Bruno Carrelli (Matt Lintz) attempting to test out the bangle's special abilities, with mixed results. Though the power change has sparked online controversy, Ms. Marvel co-creator Sana Amanat has defended this adaptation choice, describing Kamala's hard light powers as "fun and bouncy" but assuring fans that "the essence of what the powers are in the comics is there, both from a metaphorical standpoint and from a visual standpoint."

Ms. Marvel will mark Kamala Khan's first live-action appearance since her first solo comic series released in 2014. The character has previously been adapted for the multiple animated series, including Marvel's Avengers Assemble and Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, as well as video games like Marvel's Avengers and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Chronologically, Amanat has revealed that Ms. Marvel takes place roughly one to two years after Avengers: Endgame, but it's unclear as to what extent the Decimation affected Kamala or her family. After Ms. Marvel, Vellani will reprise her role for 2023's The Marvels, joining Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris as Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, respectively.

Ms. Marvel debuts June 8 on Disney+.
