This article contains spoilers for Dark Web: Ms.Marvel #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Ms. Marvel's first villain returns and brings along some feathered friends for his revenge quest.

Written by Sabir Pirzada and illustrated by Francesco Mortarino, Dark Web: Ms. Marvel resurrects The Inventor, a cyborg clone of Thomas Edison crossed with a cockatiel created by scientist Gregory Knox in Ms. Marvel #5 (2014). The Inventor died back in Ms. Marvel #11 (2015), but as a result of Limbo's invasion of New York in Dark Web, he comes back online and seeks out a retired Knox. Just before The Inventor seems to kill his creator, he learns that Knox developed other half-scientist, half-bird clones, who later confront Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan in the issue as the assembled "Inventors."

Along with Edison, the Inventors' roster crosses chemist Marie Curie with a Pheasant, electrical wizard Nikola Tesla with a Toucan, Renaissance man Leonardo Da Vinci with a Marabou Stork, and electric television creator Philo Farnsworth with an Atlantic Puffin. Though The Inventors team up to fight Ms. Marvel in Dark Web, after realizing they are fighting a losing battle, they retreat and leave Edison to face Kamala alone. The original Inventor is then deactivated and catches fire once Kamala's friend Bruno uses an E.M.P. to fry Edison's circuitry.

Where Ms. Marvel Appears in Recent Marvel Comics

Since they get away, the door is open for the four other Inventors to make a return in future Ms. Marvel stories. Kamala hasn't starred in her own ongoing series since The Magnificent Ms. Marvel wrapped in Feb. 2021, but did get the spotlight in the Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit miniseries released between late 2021 and early 2022. Over the Summer of 2022, she appeared across three one-shots teaming Ms. Marvel up with the heroes Venom, Moon Knight and Wolverine, but she has also been popping up in The Amazing Spider-Man as an intern at Norman Osborn's Oscorp company, leading to her involvement in Marvel's Dark Web event.
