The following contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel Season 1, Episode 6, "No Normal," now streaming on Disney+.

Kamala Khan and Carol Danvers fans can rejoice -- their favorite superhero has finally made it to the small screen. The post-credits scene in the Season 1 finale of Ms. Marvel takes a twisted turn that transforms Kamala Khan into the high-flying energetic beam that is Captain Marvel.

It's a known fact that Kamala is a hardcore fan of Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. With posters on the wall, innocent cosplay costumes and graphic t-shirts, Kamala might as well be head of the Captain Marvel fan club. Even the first trailer for the Disney+ series introduced her as such, setting up a superhero origin story where Kamala would closely follow in Carol's footsteps. This was partially correct -- Kamala strives to be a hero thanks to Carol's selfless acts in Avengers: Endgame, but Carol became less important to Kamala's story as the series progressed. That being said, Carol is still a big presence in Ms. Marvel, and the series constantly teased her appearance to set up her sequel film, The Marvels.

Kamala Khan swapped places with Captain Marvel in Ms. Marvel

In the post-credits scene of the Ms. Marvel finale, Kamala's bangle starts to glow for a mysterious reason. Kamala is transported away in her closet, and Carol (sporting an upgraded and by far cooler costume) comes out in Kamala's bedroom. At first, it seems like a Freaky Friday situation, with Kamala and Carol switching bodies. But Carol's disoriented reaction to seeing herself on posters in a teenager's bedroom means that Kamala and Carol switched places. Poor Kamala is probably floating around in space right now.

Unlike other recent post-credits scenes in Marvel films and television shows, Carol's cameo pays off without a hitch. It goes without saying that Ms. Marvel is an origin story for Kamala Khan, but all it's really been is a set-up for her appearance in The Marvels. It's disappointing that the series is just another example of Marvel saying, "Hey, look how we connected this to this." Kamala's story should be as the series played out to be -- about how her culture created her superhero identity, but the post-credits scene refocuses her story back on Carol, as it did in the beginning.

The first episode of Ms. Marvel was Captain Marvel galore -- Kamala's room was full of the "higher, further, faster" superhero Easter eggs and her animation YouTube channel praised Carol for her contribution to the Battle of Earth. AvengerCon was the thrill of a lifetime with sparkling Captain Marvel shrines and cosplay contests. Kamala idolized other heroes such as Ant-Man and Valkyrie, but they're just blips on her radar compared to Carol. Even when the series took a break from the Captain Marvel obsession, there were still sly references, such as the possibility that the bangle was found on a Kree's arm.

Ms. Marvel

After a few episodes of Kamala constructing her own story, Episode 6 reverts attention back on the Captain Marvel idolization. Kamala's mother gifts her with a superhero costume that has Captain Marvel's classic blue, red and gold touches. Kamala is elated to learn that her name means "marvel," and her only takeaway is that her name connects to Carol's superhero alter ego. After all the exploration into Kamala's past and family ties to the ClanDestines, the series was really just an homage to Kamala's love for Captain Marvel.

In all fairness, Ms. Marvel building up to Carol's cameo is what was expected. Going in, most people knew Kamala was a Captain Marvel super-fan and that she was going to be in The Marvels. Viewers wanted a Carol cameo or Easter egg each episode, wondering how in the world this show would lead into a film that people still don't know that much about. If anything, Ms. Marvel did exactly what it was intended to do -- set up Carol and Kamala's team-up and possibly a larger connection between their powers.
