A casting call for the Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel, revealed the search for two actors to play characters from the Marvel comic book.
According to Murphy's Multiverse, Marvel Studios is looking for a young, white actor between the ages of 16 and 20, as well as a Black actor between 27 and 33. The post suggests that the casting call aims to fill the roles of Zoe Zimmer and Tyesha Hillman, respectively. In the comic, Zoe Zimmer, the younger of the two characters, is a lesbian and reformed bully who is close friends with Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. Tysesha Hillman is married to Kamala's brother, Aamir Khan.
Disney announced the streaming series in August 2019, which is set to begin filming this November. The series made headlines last week when Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were announced as directors. The two are perhaps best known for directing Bad Boys for Life. Joining Arbi and Fallah are Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon, who has directed episodes of The Walking Dead and The Punisher.
Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel made her comic book debut in 2014. Khan is the first Muslim character to headline a Marvel comic and will be the first Muslim hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Due to exposure to Terrigen Mist, Khan has shape-shifting abilities that allow her to lengthen her limbs and alter her size.
The Disney+ series is part of several shows that will expand the MCU. The current slate includes WandaVision, set for a 2020 release; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, both slated for 2021.
Ms. Marvel is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2021.
