Season 4 of Mr. Robot may not yet have an official release date, but creator Sam Esmail was more than willing to give a little insight into the series' final season.

At the Tribeca Film Festival, Esmail explained how the final season would be set up, as well as the inspiration behind it.

"Typically how [British shows] wrap up series, like the British [version of The] Office, you tend to do a Christmas special," he said. "So the final season of Mr. Robot is one very long Christmas special that will last about a week over Christmas of 2015."

2015 has been the setting of Mr. Robot since it’s inception and has been an important focal point for the themes explored throughout the series.

“The show is still set in 2015 for this reason," Esmail continued. "The technology will always look dated, but we specifically said, this is about 2015, so it’s almost like a period piece for current day."

While Esmail was none too shy about the time period in which the fourth season would be taking place, he, along with the stars of his hit show, was rather tight-lipped about the journey Elliot and the remaining members of fSociety will be taking. When asked for information about where his characters would be heading, Esmail only offered up one clue: "Elliot’s journey. It’s not about finding puzzles and tricks; it all starts with how does Elliot feel about this, and that has motivated everything else."
