In Captain America's time of need, Mr. Peanut has come to the rescue.
The tongue-in-cheek message comes via the official Mr. Peanut Twitter account, accompanied by the simple message “We got you a shield” and the promotional hashtag #CrunchTime.
The message features an image of the Planters mascot, who dons his trademark top hat, cane and monocle. He also carries his own version of Captain America’s shield: a simple, two-tone blue circle with a peanut logo replacing the single white star.
The Mr. Peanut ad follows the 30-second Avengers: Endgame spot that aired during the Super Bowl, which hinted that Steve Rogers will finally reclaim his iconic shield. The trailer has been one of the most talked about spots during the annual flurry of commercials, and -- at the time of writing -- sits at over 6.5 million views on YouTube.
After Steve Rodgers discarded it in the emotional finale to Captain America: Civil War, the shield has been absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since, with Captain America going underground after refusing to sign the Sokovia Accords. The Super Bowl trailer for Avengers: Endgame features the first images of the shield since then.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie. The film opens on April 26.
