Typically, movies are just as subjective to everyone's opinion as any other art form, but sometimes, the majority of the human population can come together and agree unanimously on one specific movie. This is especially the case with movie franchises, where a large mass of people tend to agree which movies in the series are the best, and most importantly, which movies in the series are the worst.

However, sometimes even the popular opinion is wrong, or at the very least outdated and biased once a much worse movie comes along. Or, in some cases, a bad movie's reputation is so great that it makes people hesitant to agree that a newer movie in the series is even worse than the previous worse.

10 Considered The Worst: The Incredible Hulk Is The Most Distant MCU Movie

The Incredible Hulk

Whereas every MCU movie is chock full of references to past movies, The Incredible Hulk does not really share the same effect. Aside from the occasional reference to Hulk breaking Harlem, it's rare that future movies ever call back to its plot, characters, or moments, making it the most distant MCU movie of the bunch.

Yes, it's certainly canon in the franchise, but it's so inconsequential to the larger scheme of things that it can be avoided altogether without missing key details for other movies.

9 Should be instead: Thor: The Dark World Is The Most Pointless MCU Movie

There's a reason why Thor: The Dark World is the lowest-rated MCU movie in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes. While most reviews cited Thor: The Dark World as bland and uninteresting, most reviews agree that Tom Hiddleston and the ending were its saving graces.

The ending could be considered one of the most shocking cliffhangers in all of the MCU and got fans excited to see the next Thor movie. Except, the reveal that Loki had taken over Asgard was resolved within the first ten minutes of Ragnarok. Aside from character development that would become relevant years later on Loki, there isn't much that's satisfying—plot-wise or aesthetically—to write home about.

8 Considered The Worst: Tokyo Drift Misses The Signature Fast Cast

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

At face value, most people assume that The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is the worst movie in the franchise just because none of the original cast members from the first two movies could be secured to return. Even after this movie, no one except Sung Kang's Han Lue returns in the sequels. It doesn't help that the movie is the lowest-grossing of the franchise, probably for that very reason.

However, taking those biases away, this movie still has its own merit as a fun action romp. Ignoring movies that came after and before it, it works as a stand-alone movie.

7 Should be instead: Fast & Furious Is Boring

Not to be mistaken with the first movie, The Fast and the Furious. This confusingly titled entry serves as the fourth movie in the franchise, a return to form of sorts with the main cast members like Vin Diesel and Paul Walker returning to the franchise for the first time since either the first or second movie.

However, this third sequel took more of a gritty reboot approach, grounding things into reality and taking a slightly more serious approach to the material compared to predecessors. It wasn't until Fast Five where the franchise would quickly dissolve into the more fun, chaotic, over-the-top action tropes the series has been known for. The fourth movie just looks bland by comparison.

6 Considered The Worst: The Phantom Menace Supposedly "Killed Star Wars"

The Phantom Menace has a notorious reputation for being not only arguably the worst movie in the Star Wars franchise but also the movie that practically killed the franchise. It set the tone for fans to eviscerate the prequel trilogy to death as they loathed just about everything about the movie upon release, save for smaller inclusions like pod racing and, of course, fan-favorite villain Darth Maul.

Fans love to smack down on things like Jake Lloyd's performance as Anakin and especially Jar Jar Binks' character, which was bashed so venomously that it nearly drove the actor to end his own life. Best tweeted about this low-point in 2018, and it's obvious that fans' criticisms cut too deeply and went too far in this instance.

5 Should be instead: The Rise Of Skywalker Made No One Happy

In retrospect, a lot of the initial hate towards The Phantom Menace can be viewed as overreacting. Especially when looking at the more recent backlash that the conclusion to the sequel trilogy has suffered lately.

Whereas people didn't like Phantom Menace upon release because of annoying characters and a kid-friendly tone, The Rise of Skywalker gained criticism for flat out retconning major storylines and themes from the last two movies whilst also introducing romances with little to no build that most fans struggled to get behind. The latter criticisms sound far more egregious.

4 Considered The Worst: Crimes Of Grindelwald Never Had A Fair Chance

Grindelwald Gives His Speech

For all of its apparent flaws, it never felt like Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald had a fair chance. Released at the height of a defamation trial and spousal abuse allegations that surrounded Johnny Depp, fans of the Harry Potter franchise were quick to call for his dismissal from production long before the movie ever started filming.

Because of those controversies, it feels like most critics walked into this movie ready to hate it, and when the movie itself was far from the most exciting of the franchise, common bias gave a heavier weight to the criticisms, making this the lowest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

3 Should be instead: Deathly Hallows 2 Is The Most Dull HP Movie

The finale to the initial Harry Potter movie franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, is a grandiose spectacle to behold, but the reason why that movie comes off so great is that Part 1 comes off as being so dull.

To be fair, it's dull because the length of the original book is so long that it needed to be split into two movies once adapted. As a result, the most exciting bits are all saved for the latter half while the first half is constricted to uninteresting walks through the forest. If that movie wasn't so boring, the sequel doesn't come off as being nearly as strong.

2 Considered The Worst: Suicide Squad Was Too Much, Yet Not Enough

DCEU harley quinn joker suicide squad

Suicide Squad has a lot going on for itself, in more ways than one. A lot of characters, a lot of subplots, a lot of stories, a lot of action, etc. There is just a lot going on in this movie and maybe, all of it just comes off as being too much, more than anything.

It gets to the point where the first hour of the movie is dedicated almost exclusively to introducing every Suicide Squad member's origin story. All of these elements jam-packed into one movie seem to be overwhelming for the average viewer, meaning few (if any) of these characters and stories stand out.

1 Should be instead: Justice League (2017) Needed A Director's Cut For A Reason

justice league poster

A bigger controversy in the DCEU than the state of the Suicide Squad movie has been the long alleged Snyder Cut and it's easy to see why there was such fanfare surrounding this idea of a director's cut, long before the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League.

If the Whedonesque cut from 2017 was any good, there is a good chance that no one cares about whether or not The Snyder Cut exists. But the 2017 version of Justice League is so bad that it created a multi-year-long campaign for the cut to be released. All because of studio meddling with the script and replacement director Joss Whedon producing some cringe dialogue.
