Some movie characters are born into chaotic circumstances. There might be a hostile takeover happening or an ongoing war. Many characters are born mid-battle as fighting and death are going on around them, which can often foreshadow the character's importance.

Other times, the situation shows that although the world can be dire, innocence and purity will nevertheless continue, giving the other characters someone to rally around and protect. However, there are also times when the newly-born character signals that the situation will worsen.

Vidal's disregard for Carmen's life emphasizes his cruelty and amorality, which is already shown in his callous and violent reaction to the rebels in the woods after the Spanish Civil War.

During the chaos, Seven gives birth to her baby as she is struggling to survive. Luckily, she manages to hold the baby's head above water until Jaguar Paw pulls them out.

Jesus is born in the midst of this, fulfilling the prophecy. Herod hears of his birth and tries to get the Wise Men to give him Jesus' location. When they don't return to him, Herod orders the killing of all babies in Bethlehem under two years old. He attempts to get rid of whoever he views as competition for power.

Jor-El is murdered shortly after by General Zod, leaving his wife alone to witness Krypton implode. She wishes that Kal-El makes a better world than theirs, which is especially poignant.
