What do you do when you need your conflict to take place in a foreign nation but don't want to offend people? Make up a new one! Marvel has done it plenty of times when they need heroes or villains to travel to strange locations for a powerful MacGuffin that isn't in the U.S.A.

While it would be easy to write off the United States of America as the most powerful nation in Marvel considering the number of superheroes and supervillains that live there, that wouldn't be accurate. To do that would mean overlooking the other powerful, yet fictional, nations that also inhabit the Earth.  The following are ten of the most powerful fictional nations in Marvel. Well, the ones still standing that is, which means no Ganosha or Attilan.

10 Madripoor

Madripoor in Marvel comics

Wolverine's home away from home, Madripoor, is a town split between the rich and the poor. Divided between Hightown and Lowtown, the island nation is lax on crime provided no one disrupts the status quo. The various crime rings make it an imposing nation and criminals can't be extradited. Most importantly, it's been revealed that the entire island is on a sleeping dragon that the Hand tried to awaken. Though as long as the dragon sleeps, Madripoor stays at the top of the list.

9 Transia

For a nation with such a strange history, you'd think more people would know about it. The home country of Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Jessica Drew, Transia stands out as the home of the High Evolutionary, a geneticist capable of evolving or devolving anything.

He protects his country with the help of the New Men, a group of animals he evolved into talking, humanoid beings, and trained with the aid of the spirit of Magnus, one of Morgan Le Fay's disciples. Understandably that is a lot to take in but it is true. With magic, machinery, and chivalry on Transia's side, invaders will learn that if they mess with the bull, you get the horns. Quite literally.

8 Trans-Sabal

The U.S. has a troubled relationship with Trans-Sabal partially responsible for its position on this list. Despite the ruthless secret police, mistreatment of women, and disregard of freedom of speech, many countries were interested in trading with Trans-Sabal in exchange for oil. Through business deals with the U.S., Trans-Sabal was able to acquire S.H.I.E.L.D. technology, Mandroids, and even Spider-Slayers for their army. Various superhero teams have gotten involved with civil wars and rebellions from X-Factor to New Warriors helping the rebels against the cruel regime. If not for the constant civil unrest this country might have been ranked higher.

7 Sin-Cong

While not much as been revealed regarding the country's history or culture, Sin-Cong's military presence is well known. As well as its weapons manufacturing, disregard for human life, and giant robots being controlled by a leader known as the Commissar. No wonder Hydra is willing to partner with them, as the country is most known for is its nationalism and determination to be the best. Back in the '60s the dictator of the time wanted to defeat the Avengers for the sake of publicity, and in recent years the government hunted and exterminated any evidence of Nuhumans in the country. Cruel as the regime may be, they are better at staying concealed from the rest of the world.

6 Bagalia

Few people know the whereabouts of Bagalia, but most villains call it home. Bagalia is a criminal-run nation lead by Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil with Taskmaster serving as Sheriff. Several villains have set up bases there but not just to set up their next plan.

When the villains aren't plotting their next scheme, they're taking time to unwind and get into fights with one another. Since Bagalia's location has yet to be revealed, it's safe to say that no heroes have found it yet, making it all the more dangerous. But if they were attacked, the criminals would team-up just to save their own bacon.

5 Vorozheika

Fans of the Eternals should recognize the obscure nation of Vorozheika, or at least its newest ruler, Druig. A fellow eternal, Druig has assumed control using his tactical planning and Eternal powers. Since then he's built up a following of brainwashed Eternal followers and has been recruiting scientists around the world to work for him. Druig's ruthlessness and abilities make Vorozheika a dangerous, and hard to pronounce, nation that's not afraid to fight dirty. Yet somehow tourism is doing stupendously.

4 Symkaria

The home country of Silver Sable, Symkaria seems to always be in the middle of some sort of conflict. The nation is known for weapon manufacturing and skilled mercenaries operating under Silver Sable International and the Wild Pack. As if that wasn't enough, someone in the royal family is destined to become the next Sorcerer Supreme. While the details are hazy, it's been determined that either Princess Lenka or her child would potentially take up the mantle. Somehow being a royal baby just got a lot harder.

3 Krakoa

Marvel is home to many living landmasses like Ego the Living Planet, Illa, and Id, as well as Krakoa. Krakoa was made after nuclear bomb tests mutated a Pacific island's ecosystem into hive-mind. Krakoa was once an enemy of the X-Men until Charles Xavier repurposed, recruited, and experimented on it.

With the help of Cypher, they turned it into a sanctuary for mutants and provided drugs that served as antibiotics and cures for mental diseases to countries that recognized them as a nation. It's certainly an upgrade from the X-Mansion.

2 Latveria

Was there any doubt that Latveria wouldn't make this list? Under Dr. Doom's rule, Latveria is a worldwide superpower that is not to be trifled with. Doom's armies are made up of human soldiers, Servo-Guards, and Doombots designed to fight until they win or die in battle. Not that Doom needs an army to intimidate the world considering his mastery over science and magic make him a terrifying opponent to go up against. Only one nation dared to put up a fight against him.

1 Wakanda

There was a time when no one knew about Wakanda. Thanks to Black Panther, it's practically become a household name. Their access to Vibranium has made them one of the technologically advanced nations in the world. The armies are fierce, proud warriors that fight for their homeland, and while some of the traditions are a bit outdated, they are effective in picking out a worthy king. More importantly, they have mastered surveillance and have agents hidden all over the world. What else is there to say except Wakanda forever!
