One of the most important aspects of battling in Dragon Ball is when the heroes and villains undergo transformations. These are basically the same as power-ups in a video game and it raises the power of the individuals, giving them the ability to really take part in amazing fights. The transformation into the Super Saiyan form is the one that really changed things in Dragon Ball. Most thought it was just a legend until Goku achieved his Super Saiyan transformation and that just opened the floodgates for anyone and everyone to try to push themselves to master the new form.

Over the years, there have been many different types of Super Saiyan forms and most of them raise the character's powers and abilities to ridiculous levels, shattering the ceiling that most believed was in place before the newest Super Saiyan form debuted. However, with that said, not all characters who reached the Super Saiyan form are created equal and while there are some crazy strong characters, others leave a lot to be desired. Here is a look at the 25 most powerful Super Saiyans in Dragon Ball, ranked from weakest to most overpowered.

25 ONIO

Dragon-Ball-Onio-Blast

When one thinks of Saiyans, they think of attractive characters, in great shape with flowing hair and a rugged sense of machismo. When one looks at Onio, there is no sign of that Saiyan. If you are wondering who Onio is, he appeared in the manga Neko Majin Z.

When Onio arrives on Earth as a honeymoon destination, he decides to destroy everyone and make the planet his country home. However, after Neko Majin Z touches Onio's wife, the portly man goes Super Saiyan and ends up losing in battle anyway. When it comes to powers, Onio as a Super Saiyan is about the level of Vegeta at his base level.

24 FASHA

Fasha from Dragon Ball

Fasha was the only female member of Bardock's Planet Elite Force in its final form. She is also one of the first female Saiyans seen in battle, first appearing in Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku. She is almost more powerful than many of her male counterparts -- outside of Bardock himself.

Fasha's power is considered at a level of 2,000. Her main transformation is into a great ape whenever a full moon is on display. This is very similar to the second or third form for Frieza. In Frieza Saga, he revealed that she was one of the Saiyans that he was responsible for the destruction of.

23 KING VEGETA

King Vegeta is an interesting character when looking at where the Dragon Ball saga ended up. He is the father of Vegeta, the ruler of the Saiyans, and the strongest warrior before the genocide of his people. He also fought hard to ensure that no one more powerful rose in his kingdom although he held out hope for his son's possible Super Saiyan transformation.

While King Vegeta never attained the Super Saiyan form on his own, his son finally did -- although that came after the commoner in Goku gained the power first. King Vegeta, for all his talk, fell easily to one punch by Frieza. Even his own son dismisses the power his father believed he possessed.

22 MIRA AND FU

Dragon Ball Mira and Fu

Mira and Fu come from the future. They are very different characters, a hybrid of a demon and a Saiyan, and are bad guys that are really troublesome for the heroes. Their powers are strong because they possess the DNA of Frieza. They exist in Dragon Ball Xenoverse, its follow up movie and Dragon Ball Heroes.

While their power up is not officially called Super Saiyan, it is actually the equivalent of that morphing when it comes to the increase of their powers. This power-up is a hybrid version of the Super Saiyan transformation and is a first-grade power that distributes through their bodies.

21 VEGETA JR.

Vegeta Jr vs Goku Jr

Vegeta Jr. has not been seen much on Dragon Ball but he did make an appearance in Dragon Ball GT during the Shadow Dragon Saga. He is descendant of Vegeta and is the son of Bulma Leigh. While he is only a quarter Saiyan (although it is unsure if it is through Trunks or Bulla), he has the capability to go Super Saiyan.

His big moment came in the World Martial Arts Tournament and his opponent in the Shadow Dragon Saga was Goku Jr. The winner of the battle was never shown, but he proved he could fly and had the ability to pull off the Rapid Aggression rapid-fire kick technique.

20 GOKU JR.

A Dragon Ball GT image shows Goku Jr sweating and feeling intimidated

Goku Jr. appeared in Dragon Ball GT in both the Hero's Legacy and again in the last episode of the series. He battled Vegeta Jr. in the 64th annual World Martial Arts Tournament although the winner was never shown.

He received much more screen time than Vegeta Jr. though. In The Hero's Legacy, he meets Goku when he sets out on a mission to find Dragon Balls to help restore the health of Pan. It is then that he discovers he can transform into a Super Saiyan which he uses to easily defeat the demon Lord Yao. He can fly and has the abilities of Kiai and the Brave Smash attack.

19 PAN

Trunks and Pan on Dragon Ball Super

Pan is only partially Saiyan, the granddaughter of Goku. She has made appearances in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super and she possessed amazing powers even as an infant, able to power up at that young age. Obviously, she proved herself when she was four in Dragon Ball Z.

She has the ability to fly, which is what she was doing in Dragon Ball Z as she tried to get faster and faster. She also proved her mettle there when, at the age of four, she beat a fully grown man with two punches. She also restrained Android 20 in the Super 17 Saga.

18 RADITZ

Raditz is Goku's brother and was very powerful. The only way that Goku could defeat his brother was in a moment of self-sacrifice. With that said, and despite his immense powers, he was not up to the level of many Super Saiyan warriors that have come along since.

Since he was the first real villain, he did not utilize Super Saiyan at that time but the game Super Dragon Ball Heroes showed him in that state. Raditz was able to jump all the way to Super Saiyan 3, which really increased his power in the world of the games.

17 BARDOCK

This almost doesn't seem fair. When Goku tapped into the power of the Super Saiyan, it had been so long since it happened that many stopped believing in it. As a result, Bardock was not a Super Saiyan in his regular timeline.

However, that didn't stop Dragon Ball from delivering the moment anyway later in time. In Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock, Bardock traveled back in time and faced off with one of Frieza's ancestors, in which case he finally powered up to Super Saiyan level to win the fight. It is this moment that allowed Chilled's descendants to know about the Super Saiyans.

16 CABBA

Vegeta and Cabba on Dragon Ball Super

Cabba is relatively new in the world of Dragon Ball, introduced in Dragon Ball Super as a new Saiyan. However, unlike other Saiyans, he came from Universe 6. In this world, Cabba said Saiyans are warriors of justice and defends the universe. He first achieved his Super Saiyan form in a battle with Vegeta, who he soon developed a strong relationship with.

It was during his battles in the Universe Survival Saga that Cabba battled Monna and was fiercely defending his universe from annihilation. In this battle, Cabba proved his mettle by finally reaching the Super Saiyan 2 before finishing the tournament when he fell easily to Frieza, who had taken on his Golden form.

15 TRUNKS

Trunks was one of the most powerful half-Saiyans before he ever powered up. The son of Vegeta and Bulma, he looks like his mother but has the fighting skills of his father. He was able to become a Super Saiyan as a child, much like Goten. Trunks is also the future prince when his father finally departs this world.

There is also a Future Trunks, who is much more powerful than the main world version. Despite that, the main world version stands up well against many other fighters, using the Super Saiyan form to battle Goten evenly at one point. However, when he battled Future Trunks, he was easily defeated.

14 NAPPA

nappa-dragon-ball-z

When Vegeta attacked Earth, he had a partner named Nappa. While Vegeta ended up as one of the most popular characters in Dragon Ball and a hero much of the time, no one really talks much anymore about Nappa. While Vegeta is a noble and heroic Saiyan prince, Nappa is not anywhere near the level of that warrior.

Sure, he was a military genius but when he faced Goku, he fell pretty quick and decisively. He was so worthless that Vegetta just took him out when his value ran out. With that said, Dragon Ball GT allowed him to reach Super Saiyan levels in the Super 17 Saga, but he was still not up to the level of pretty much any other Super Saiyan in the franchise.

13 GOTENKS

When Trunks and Goten used the Fusion Dance, it resulted in Gotenks. This was the first successful version of the Fusion Dance in Dragon Ball and a new warrior was created. He ended up as one of the strongest characters at the time, rivaled by only Goku in both the anime and the manga versions.

Despite that, Gotenks is very immature and acts mostly like a child and he utilizes some crazy fighting techniques that show this immaturity. He is a Super Saiyan 3, only the second being after Goku to achieve this, but his complete lack of experience in this form holds him back from being as powerful as he could be.

12 CAULIFLA

Anime Dragon Ball Super Caulifla

Caulifla is one of the strongest female characters in the Dragon Ball world. Along with Kale, she is someone who can fight anyone and defend herself against any number of enemies. She arrived in the world from Universe 6, as did Cabba, but she joined up with Goku to help her achieve success.

Thanks to her training under Goku, she was quickly able to power up to Super Saiyan 2 level the same day that she learned to hit the first stage, and she did some amazing things in that form. In the Tournament of Power, Caulifla was able to stand toe-to-toe with Goku, proving how strong she really is.

11 GOTEN

Dragon Ball Z Goten Trunks World Martial Arts Tournament

Goten is the second son of Goku and has the same potential that his father had. What is impressive is that Goten actually reached the Super Saiyan level as a child, the youngest to ever attain this power in the manga. He had the power to stand up to almost anyone. He even combined power with Trunks to help slow down Majin Buu.

One key thing to note is that Goten was able to manifest his Super Saiyan form without needing any distress or extreme conditions. This makes him more powerful than many others because he doesn't need as much energy to power up to this form and can last longer in a battle.

10 KALE

Kale came into the world of Dragon Ball from Universe 6 and was an immediate threat as a warrior.  She was only the second female Super Saiyan on the show and was the protege of Caulifla. Incredibly, it only took her one day to go Super Saiyan and she grew to massive muscular levels.

However, she got really frightening because she got super strong and muscular and developed intense rage. She is incredibly powerful for a Super Saiyan but since she can't control her rage and slips into Berzerker mode, it affects her skills. She did develop some control in the Tournament of Power but it lessened her strength when exerting that control.

9 FUTURE TRUNKS

Trunks always showed the aptitude to be a very powerful Saiyan. Future Trunks was the hybrid son of Future Vegeta and Future Bulma in an alternate dimension. Trained by Future Gohan, he traveled back in time to save his world's future. When he arrived, he faced Frieza and then showed that he had already amassed the power o turn Super Saiyan, and easily handles Frieza and his soldiers.

Future Trunks had both hits and misses concerning his transformation to a Super Saiyan. He achieved the Ultra Super Saiyan form and this caused huge power boosts that increased his muscle mass and slowed him down too much to be effective. However, he also achieved the Rage Super Saiyan form and defeated Fused Zamasu.

8 GOHAN

Gohan is the oldest son of Goku and the father of Pan. While Goku loves to fight, Gohan preferred only to go into battle when he needed to defend his loved ones. He does spend most of his life as a protector for Earth as part of Dragon Team. Dragon Ball Z traced most of Gohan's journey into a hero.

He finally reached Super Saiyan 2 for the first time in that series and it was the turning point for his character and the entire series. It is Gohan who stepped up to be the hero against Perfect Cell, almost like a passing of the torch. There are those who are more powerful, but in his Super Saiyan 2 form, he beat Perfect Cell and saved his people.

7 GOKU BLACK

One of the best villains in Dragon Ball Super is Goku Black. To really understand how strong he is, realize that this is an evil version of Goku from a parallel world. It was exciting to see the greatest hero in the world of Dragon Ball meet his doppelganger and to see what could have happened if Goku had taken a different path in his life.

Goku Black had a very powerful Super Saiyan transformation called Super Saiyan Rose. This is pretty much equal to the Super Saiyan Blue version of the main world's Goku. He was so powerful that Goku and Vegeta had to fuse in order to defeat him.

6 KEFLA

Caulifla and Kale were the two most exciting and formidable female fighters in the Dragon Ball world. When Caulifla and Kale trained under Goku, they achieved Super Saiyan powers in record time and they ended up forming a fusion that brought to life someone of even more immense and amazing powers -- Kefla.

Because she was fused by two Super Saiyans, Kefla is forever stuck in her Super Saiyan state and she quickly became one of the most powerful warriors in the Tournament of Power storyline. She ranks alongside Vegito, Fused Zamasu and Gogeta as one of the four most powerful fusions in the franchise.
