The year 2018 was an exciting year for anime which saw the return of some eagerly anticipated series such as Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia and Steins; Gate. Other interesting stories such as Run With The Wind and A Place Further Than The Universe made remarkable debuts, and are widely considered to be some of the best anime to come out in recent years.

These stories are all well animated and written with keen attention to detail, which resulted in some exceptional stories coming out over the year. These stories were voted on by watchers and this list provides a rundown of the best-rated anime from 2018, according to MyAnimeList.

10 RASCAL DOES NOT DREAM OF BUNNY GIRL SENPAI 8.46

One day, Sakuta Azukagawa is at the library when he suddenly spots a girl wearing a bunny costume roaming around the library. As it turns out, this girl is his school mate and a popular idol, Mai Sakurajima, best known for her roles as a child actress. To his confusion, he seems to be the only one capable of seeing and interacting with her.

Mai is suffering from Adolescence Syndrome. This prompts Sakuta to help Mai with her problem and, as he does this, he encounters more victims of the disease. This anime does an amazing job of exploring the struggles that modern teenagers often face which was refreshing to see.

9 ATTACK ON TITAN SEASON 3 PART 1 8.50

Season 3 of Attack on Titan focuses mainly on the conflict between humans, as opposed to titans. Yes, even when the world is under constant threat of attack from titans, humans will find the time to fight amongst themselves.

Much of the season takes place inside the walls, with this season having far more complex political undertones. Each of the organizations inside the walls is playing a daring game of chess, where the winner takes all. This is a well written season of Attack on Titan, which did a good job of showing that sometimes humans are the most fearsome monsters of all.

8 RUN WITH THE WIND 8.52

Haji Kiyose has long dreamt of standing at the finish line of the Hakone Ekiden, a massively popular and important university marathon relay race. He was once an ace runner but, due to injuries, he was forced to stop competing for a few years. Despite this, he trained hard, focused on his recovery and slowly recruited members to the club; some through passion others through trickery.

These boys all start off as strangers but, as they struggle and go through hardships, they develop into a close-knit family. This anime does a fantastic job of getting the audience to care about each of the main cast, and this makes every win on their journey so much more fulfilling.

7 STEINS; GATE 0 8.56

Steins; Gate 0 depicts the story of Rintarou Okabe, as the mad scientist attempts to get over the tragic loss of his friend, Makise Kurisu. This loss hits Rintarou to his core and, after a while, he decides to quit being a scientist.

The pain he experienced turned him away from the life of science but, later on, it is this same science that gives him the chance to come to terms with his loss, after the development of an Artificial Intelligence system that can store the memories and personalities of people. This anime does a good job of displaying how much a loss can disrupt a person's life, and it also teaches how important it is to come to terms with your own reality.

6 THE DISASTROUS LIFE OF SAIKI K SEASON 2 8.60

Saiki K is one of the funniest anime around currently, with wonderful gags that could make anyone laugh. This season sees Saiki try to avoid problems as much as possible but, as always, the people around him find some way of getting him involved.

Saiki dreams of having a peaceful life but his strange and fascinating abilities result in him attracting peculiar characters around him. This season introduces a couple of these characters who cause further disruption in Saiki's life. These characters work well with the main cast to land some well-executed jokes, making Saiki K a must-watch.

5 MY HERO ACADEMIA SEASON 3 8.61

My Hero Academia season 3 is a brilliantly executed season of the anime that splits itself evenly, with the first half of the season focusing on All Might's battle with All for One, while the latter focuses on the effects of his subsequent retirement and the provisional license exam.

These monumental moments are just a few of the highlights in what was a season of both physical and, more importantly, mental growth for the young heroes of the world. This growth made for an absolutely compelling watch.

4 VIOLET EVERGARDEN 8.63

This anime focuses on Violet as she recovers from war and tries to find her place in the world. For as long as she can remember, Violet was just a tool used by the military to execute its targets. As such, she initially struggles to adapt to a life that did not require those things from her.

After a chance encounter with an "Auto Memories Doll", a doll designed to work for humans by writing for them. Violet decides to become an Auto Memories Doll, in a means to grown and understand the world around her. This story explores the important questions that are often ignored in post-war anime worlds and does a good job at it.

3 A PLACE FURTHER THAN THE UNIVERSE 8.64

A Place Further Than The Universe depicts the story of four brave, young girls who band together over the course of an exciting journey to Antartica. Mari Tamaki has a massive fear of the unknown and unexpected. Despite this, she dreams of developing the courage to one day go on her own exciting adventure.

She gets her chance after meeting the energetic, Shiraze Kobuchizawa, who dreams of going to Antartica to find her mother who disappeared three years ago. Upon discovering this, Mari finally takes her leap of faith. The two are then joined by Yuzuki Shiraishi and Hinata Miyake. This anime tells a captivating and adventurous coming of age story, one that shouldn't be missed out on.

2 JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURES: GOLDEN WIND 8.72

This incarnation of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure details the journey of the small-time criminal, Giorno Giovanna and his rise to prominence as one of Italy's premier mafiosos.

Giorno dreams of one day overtaking the Passione Mafia group in order to improve the quality of life in Italy. Giorno comes from the famed Joestar bloodline, and, as many of his ancestors before him, he faces a tough battle to realize his potential.

As always, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure delivers a fun and interesting story worth watching.

1 GINTAMA SILVER SOUL ARC 8.79

The exciting and hilarious Gintama anime concludes on the Silver Soul Arc, where our heroes must overcome Utsuro's plan to destroy the entire universe.

With the stakes as high as they can be, Gintoki and his allies gather together in preparation for battle. But, due to the opposition numbers, they cannot do it alone and choose to ally with former enemies. This combined force is enough to defeat the enemy and the war for the universe is won.

Two years later, Gintoki has disappeared much to everyone's confusion. With a new threat now looming, will he make a return?
