From phrases like Waifu and Husbando to the many types of dere that you find seasoned fans using, it can be easy to get lost in translation. While you have probably been able to figure out some of the more popular dere types, there are tons of rare ones that you barely get to see. 10 Common: Yandere

Yuno Gasai Bloody Axe

This is one of the most well-known types of dere. Yandere are anime characters who are so in love with the people around them that they would literally kill for them. This isn't just killing for defense, though, as yanderes will also kill anyone who gets to close to their beloved.

Tons of action and horror anime will feature this character type, and it's pretty easy to spot. The most famous anime that features a Yandere is Future Diary, which has the popular character Yuno.

9 Rare: Himedere

Himedere's are a bit rarer and typically appear in anime with comedy in them. Himedere are characters who are convinced they are royalty or, at the very least, they should be treated like it. More often than not, everyone else in the show will thank that this character is delusional and will refuse to go along with their ideas.

Himedere are harder to pull off in some more serious anime by they do occasionally pop up. A popular Himedere is Beatrice from Re:Zero.

8 Common: Tsundere

Tsundere may be the most common type of dere to ever grace anime and manga. Tsunderes are characters that act hostile or indifferent to the people they like. Many Tsundere characters have become the talk of anime conventions around the world thanks to their strange personalities.

Tsunderes can pop-up in just about any type of anime out there. One of the most popular Tsunderes is Taiga from Toradora who has a hard time falling in love or even showing it.

7 Rare: Shundere

WataMote anime

Shundere is quite different from many other types of dere, as they are considered to be depressed. These characters start out in their anime depressed and, for the most part, stay depressed for the duration of the anime series.

Shundere often aren't dark characters but are used to make a situation more relatable to viewers. The most popular shundere is Tomoko from WataMote a story about a girl who is so awkard she has no clue how to make friends.

6 Common: Kuudere

Kuudere have become more and more common in anime. A kuudere is the character who is often cold and blunt, especially to the main character of the show. Kuudere often are seen as very honest as they don't mince words when asked for their opinion, this may make them seem like they don't have feelings at all.

Kuudere often add comedic relief to situations by poking fun at them through dry humor. A popular Kuudere is Oragami a young elite solider from Date a Live.

5 Rare: Dorodere

Dorodere is a character that keeps a certain outward appearance while being completely twisted. Usually, these characters will appear as kindhearted, when really they are thinking about how to murder those around them. This is one of the tropes used to create some of the most popular villains in present-day anime.

Dorodere never give away their true intentions until you start to get close to them. A popular example of a dorodere is the extravagant and murderous Junko from Danganronpa.

4 Common: Dandere

Dandere have grown in popularity over the years due to being an easy to love personality. Dandere are shy characters who take a while to warm up to the main character once they are comfortable around them though they will begin to open up.

Dandere are common in all types of anime and can fit into a variety of roles, some of the best ones come from comedy or romance series. Rikka from the show Love, Chuunibyo, and Other Delusions is a popular dandere.

3 Rare: Yottadere

Yottadere are becoming a bit more common in anime, but they still aren't as commonly used as other dere types. The yottadere is a character that is often found drinking but mostly consumes traditional drinks like sake or Japanese beer and always seem to be drunk.

Many yottadere characters are comedic and appear in anime more geared towards adults, or shows that feature college-age characters. A popular yottadere is Tsunade who can often be found enjoying alcohol and comes from Naruto.

2 Common: Deredere

Another common type of dere is the deredere, which are usually characters that are incredibly sweet. Deredere are characters who are completely in love wither everything and are mainly found in romance or comedy anime where the characters begin to date or have crushes. Some other characters may just be in love with the world as a whole.

Deredere is most prominent in the comedy or shojo genre and is rarely seen outside of it. A popular deredere character is Momiji from Fruits Basket.

Darudere are hard characters to put in the limelight as their personality can be hard to work with. Darudere are lazy to the core and simply don't bother doing things that they deem to be a hassle, even if it is for their own good.

Darudere can pop up in just about any series if correctly placed, but usually don't get a ton of screen time. A popular darudere character is the incredibly lazy Umaru from the anime Himouto! Umaru-chan.
