Relatively known as the protector force of the universe, The Green Lantern Corps would become the successors of the Man-Hunters and would number in the thousands, using their superior willpower to protect their sectors from galactic threats, though some view the corps in a militaristic light due to having no constraints of authority in killing enemies.

However, as mighty as its members may be with their nigh-inexhaustible source of power and imagination to create light constructs for various feats, every army has its casualties, and in the realm of DC, the threats are too grand for some lanterns to come out alive against. Here are 10 Green Lantern casualties who went out with a literal and brutal bang.

10 Arkkis Chummuck - Sector 3014

Protector of Space Sector 3014, Arkkis Chummuck would don his lantern ring after defeating his predecessor in combat and consuming his innards, per his species unconventional standards of showing a worthy opponent. He would meet his demise on a mission to fight an escaped Maaldor, who kidnapped several Guardians and stole the Central Power Battery.

Being imbued with the power of the last 5 remaining lanterns, Arkkis takes a suicide charge against Maaldor and expends the overload of his energy in a gigantic explosion, leaving behind no physical trace of either combatant.

9 Bivvix - Sector 3391

First appearing in Yesterdays Sins, a miniseries detailing the origin of Guy Gardner, Bivvix was one of the captives of the Draals who were creating sleeper agents to infiltrate the homeworld of various lanterns. Through Gardener's efforts, the small band was able to pirate the Draal ship and escape.

He would lose his ring in the events of Emerald Twilight when Hal Jordan became possessed by the Parallax entity and began cutting a swath through the Green Lantern Corps. This led Bivvix to travel to earth by spaceship to warn Guy Gardner of the threat but due to critical malfunctions, he burned upon re-entry.

8 Cherniss - Sector 344

Unfortunately for Cherniss, his first appearance in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #1 would also be the issue he would lose his life. The Green Lantern of Sector 344, Cherniss would plunge to his death when Maaldor would absorb the Central Power Battery's power, and with it the energy of Green Lantern Corps.

Pursuing the Raiders of Kramtoo, Cherniss would alarmingly come to realize his ring lost its charge resulting in him crashing to the planet's surface. He and the spirits of several lanterns including Arkkis, and Bivvix would be honored in the Crypts of Oa, under the supervision of Morro.

7 Remnant Nod - Sector 1132

An imprisoned Remnant Nod would gain the responsibilities of the Green Lantern when his predecessor, Meeno Monak, sacrificed his life diverting a comet from the oppressed planet of Z'Nang.

The defender of Sector 1132, while transporting Sinestro to Korugar to stand trial, an ambush from a small band of Sinestro Corps members would catch Remnant off his guard when the third-party appearance of the Red Lanterns would result in an enraged Atrocitis ripping Remnant in half to reach Sinestro to fulfill his revenge.

6 Arx - Sector 488

Hailing from the planet of Thorr'g, Arx had an extremely competitive edge which led him to be chosen as the Green Lantern of Sector 488. His family would be slaughtered by the Sinestro Corps Member, Quintet, leaving him to have a hatred for the corps, and clouding his judgment while on Sinestro's transport to Korugar.

While on transport, the ambush by the Sinestro Corps would have Arx blasted through the head, however, he would not let fear consume him and stayed resolute till his last breath.

5 Driq - Sector 667

Driq was the Green Lantern of Sector 667 and gained notoriety as a chief strategist among the corps, however, would encounter death not once, but multiple times. His "initial" death saw he and a plethora of other lanterns wiped out by the forces of the sentient sector, MadGod Sector 3600. After trillions of life in the sector began gartering worship towards a single deity named T:D:H:D:, the deity gained immense power, transcending a physical form and fusing his life essence with the entirety of the sector.

Becoming MadGod Sector 3600, his onslaught resulted in Driq being blown apart, however for some peculiar reason, his ring reassembled his body leaving a disfigured living corpse. Experiencing a twisted idea of immortality, he would meet his final death when Sinestro tampered with the Central Power Battery, forcing it to recall its energy from the corps upon his death, and thus leaving Driq with no source to sustain his "life".

4 Katma Tui - Sector 1417

Before Sinestro defected from the Green Lantern Corps he would circumvent his duties and rule his home planet of Korugar with an iron fist, though without his superior's wherewithal of his actions. Katma Tui was one of the planet's denizens who led a rebellion against Sinestro ultimately succeeding him as the Green Lantern of Sector 1417.

However, her people's skewed perception of the Green Lantern Corps due to Sinestro's machinations led Katma to be dubbed "Katma Tui The Lost". When the villainess Star Sapphire wanted a message sent to Hal Jordan, she would enter the home of a depowered Katma, unaware of her arrival, and slash Tui to death in her kitchen.

3 Mogo (Injustice) - Sector 2261

Used interchangeably to address a person or a place, Mogo is a sentient planet embued with the emerald energy of a Green Lantern and conducts how and where a deceased lantern's ring will go to. Expending massive quantities of energy in any given direction, Mogo is not only a veritable trump card to the Green Lantern Corps, but he has also operated as the moving base of the corps after the destruction of Oa.

In the Injustice universe, an alternate reality where a grieving Superman becomes a world dictator, Mogo would perish when Superman, amplified with a yellow power ring, uses his enhanced might to push both Mogo and the Guardian, Ganthet, into the sun resulting in their death.

2 Barin Char - Sector 1522

The Green Lantern known as Barin Char would first appear in a special, or lack thereof, DC crossover involving the Green Lantern Corps battling the Xenomorphs from the Alien universe. Unfortunately, his first appearance would also be his last when the Green Lantern VS Aliens crossover resulted in Char suffering a death anyone, from any universe, would not wish upon their enemies.

In line with the Alien mythos, while investigating a hive on a hidden rock formation, Barin is attacked by a "face-hugger" which then forcefully implants its eggs inside the chest of Barin. He would become partially cocooned while the parasite gestated inside of him until it would burst out of Barin's body, clearly killing him.

1 Gretti - Sector 2828

When a black hole emerged funneling our universe between that of the Anti-Matter one, a band of space-gypsies are met with the Green Lantern of Uxor to aid them from the threat. However, due to a sentimental hold on ancestry tradition, they refuse help from the outsider, giving way to the Green Lantern lending Gretti his ring to neutralize and close the black hole. Being inducted for his nobility, Greta became a Green Lantern of Sector 2828 but with the nomadic nature of him and his travelers, rarely stayed confined to that sector.

He would experience one of the most tragic deaths when he would be ordered back to his sector to be a field liaison in the capture of the Orange Lantern, Larfleeze. This resulted in Larfleez refusing to surrender and unleashing his army of constructs, 4 of which seized Gretti's arms and legs and pulled the lantern apart.
