It’s incredible to consider just how much the quirky Pokémon series has grown since its debut back on the Game Boy. Pokémon is still one of Nintendo’s flagship series, but their scope has reached a whole other level where there are now a wealth of spin-offs as well as important changes that delineate the modern Pokémon titles from the earlier entries in the series. Despite these changes, Pokémon has never lost sight of how it’s the Pokémon themselves that are most important.

Exciting and different types of Pokémon add lots of variety to battles, but Normal-Type Pokémon are unusual creatures that don’t have a clear signifier like some of the other Pokémon types. Some Normal-Type Pokémon are anomalies, but there are also some that have the cutest Pokémon designs.

10 Munchlax Applies A Cute Take On A Former Behemoth

Munchlax and characters from the Alola region

The addition of Baby Pokémon is a fun way to add new life to Pokémon that have been somewhat neglected. It also allows some intimidating standalone Pokémon to gain more depth with a new pre-evolved form that takes a very different approach. Munchlax is the baby form of Snorlax and doesn’t come into the picture until Pokémon’s fourth generation. Munchlax has a precocious and adorable appearance, but the fact that the Pokémon also has a voracious appetite is another detail that makes this Normal-Type Pokémon stand out.

9 Audino’s Helpful And Inquisitive Attitude Makes It An Adorable Addition

audino pokemon center

Audino debuts in Generation V’s Unova region and is a Pokémon that bears a resemblance to many other Normal-Type Pokémon, but it happens to be its own creature that’s not connected to anything else. In the Pokémon anime, there are often Audino that assist in Pokémon Centers as nurses and it seems like they could give Chanseys a run for their money. Audino’s body is slightly bulbous and its ears cater towards the Pokémon’s exaggerated sense of hearing. Audino also has a Mega Evolution form that’s equally charming and it’s a Pokémon that just exudes calm.

8 Komala’s Entire Existence Is Lost In A Cute Slumber

Komala from the Pokemon anime sleeping peacefully

There are certain animals from nature that take the Pokémon series some time to develop Pokémon equivalents. The Alola region from Generation VII introduces a Koala Pokémon with Komala, an innocent Normal-Type Pokémon. Komala is quite unusual in the sense that the Pokémon spends its entire life lost in slumber.

This detail makes the Pokémon even more adorable and suddenly all of his attacks become cute acts of sleepwalking. Komala also passionately clings to a small log at all times, which makes the sleepy Normal-Type Pokémon seem like it has an emotional support tool.

7 Teddiursa Is A Literal Teddy Bear With Love To Give

Anime teddiursa

The original 151 Pokémon feature some iconic designs, but Generation II and the Johto region take some exciting risks and bring a lot more unconventional creatures into the picture, many of which are Normal-Type Pokémon. Teddiursa highlights the cuddly side of bears and is exactly why it’s dangerous to play with bear cubs. Teddiursa comes across as innocent and looks like he wouldn’t hurt a fly, but the Pokémon’s evolved form, Ursaring, is an entirely different story and a vision of the dangerous path that lies ahead for this cute creature.

6 Jigglypuff Fits A Larger Than Life Personality Into A Mischievous Package

Jigglypuff sings into a mic in Pokemon

Jigglypuff might not seem like that big of a deal when it first appears in the original Pokémon, but it’s strangely grown into a highly popular character. The Normal- and Fairy-Type Pokémon comes alive in the anime with the frustration that it feels over everyone falling asleep during its peaceful lullabies. It’s a character quirk that never grows old and it’s helped Jigglypuff even end up in other video games like Super Smash Bros. Jigglypuff is the cutest of its evolutionary line, but Igglybuff and Wigglytuff both have comparable looks as well.

5 Skitty Is A Normal-Type Feline That Makes The Perfect Pet

Some Pokémon are predatory monsters that are just as much a threat to humans as they are to other Pokémon, but there is also a large assortment that go in the opposite direction and seem like they could be friendly pets for a child.

Pokémon that draw inspiration from canines and felines are typically on the cuter side. Skitty, a Normal-Type Pokémon from the Hoenn region, is no exception. Skitty certainly looks different from a normal cat, but it’s a look that only emphasizes its delicate features. Skitty is meant to be a friend.

4 Eevee Is The Ideal Blank Slate That Makes Many Other Pokémon Possible

Eevee looking happy and blushing in the Pokemon anime

Eevee feels like one of the most appropriate examples of a Normal-Type Pokémon since it’s meant to function as the base form for Eevee’s many different elemental evolutions. All of these evolutions retain Eevee’s core design in some respect, but they largely lose the Pokémon’s innocence in exchange for the new elemental aspect. Eevee’s look is hard to argue with and it’s helped the Pokémon grow into one of the most popular in the franchise and even become a partner Pokémon in the recent Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!.

3 Azurill Brings Even More Cuteness To Marill’s Fun Design

Anime Pokemon Misty's Azurill Jumps

Any discussion over adorable Pokémon designs will inevitably mention Pikachu in some capacity and there are even several Pokémon that shamelessly riff on the Electric-Type Pokémon’s beloved look. Marill is one of the better Pikachu clones, but it’s a Water- and Fairy-Type Pokémon. Curiously, Marill’s previous form, Azurill, is a Normal- and Fairy-Type Pokémon, despite how it still shares an affinity for the water. Azurill is an even cuter version of Marill, so it easily becomes one of the cuter Normal-Type Pokémon and a standout from Generation III.

2 Happiny Is A Bouncing Ball Of Joy

Pokemon Happiny being happy and playful

Chansey is one of the original Pokémon that’s quite beloved because of its prevalence in Pokémon Centers and its ability to help heal other Pokémon. Chansey doesn’t look intimidating in the least, but it still has a fairly large body and it’s perhaps too big of a creature to classify as cute. Generation IV of Pokémon adds a pre-evolved form, Happiny, to the equation. Happiny carries the same infectious and positive attitude as Chansey, but it’s significantly tinier and even more adorable. Happiny looks like it should be on top of a fancy cake.

1 Minccino Is Nothing But Grace And Beauty

Anime Pokemon Minccino Sparkling

Minccino is a scrappy little Normal-Type Pokémon that first appears in Generation V and is the type of creature that Pokémon groomers go absolutely nuts over. Minccino might not look like much, but it makes up for its small size with tons of personality and energy. The Pokémon is also quite tidy and Minccino have the tendency to clean each other with their tails, which is highly cute behavior. Minccino's evolved form, Cinccino, becomes even fancier and is just as adorable, but there's an appreciated level of simplicity with Minccino.
