WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mosquito Coast Season 1, Episode 6, "Calaca" which aired Friday on Apple TV+.

In The Mosquito Coast, Allie (Justin Theroux) has been making deadly decisions to get to the mysterious Calaca down in Mexico. He believes that cell is a haven for them as they're fleeing the NSA and the cartel. Still, even his wife Margot (Melissa George) is losing faith in his ability to protect them. It goes from bad to worse in the latest episode when seeds of a major betrayal are planted, hitting close to home and endangering the Foxes even more.

The catalyst for this betrayal came when his daughter, Dina, contacted the NSA via payphone to find out details of Allie's crimes a couple of episodes back. She didn't get answers, but she's been suspicious of what Allie did to flee America since then. Now, scouring online in an Internet cafe, she discovers an article detailing how he kidnapped a kid. But it's a fake story set up by the agents to track the viewers down, knowing it'd be Dina or her brother Charlie. Still, she doesn't know that and no longer trusts her parents.

She even questions Charlie, asking if he remembers his past. Considering it's often difficult to recall early childhood memories, Dina thinks they're not siblings or part of the Fox family. It doesn't help that she's contacted Agent Estelle, who feeds her this info (or misinformation), so she can convince her to sell Allie out. Voorhees, Estelle's partner, thinks she's crossing a line, manipulating the girl, but Estelle just wants results.

It comes to a head when Allie and Margot escape interrogation by the real Calaca, garnering info to get to the promised land in Guatemala's Casa Roja. But when they reach the hotel room, Estelle and Voorhees are there, thanks to Dina.

It's been building since the first episode. Allie constantly uprooted his family to hide as civilians, home-schooling and robbing them of happiness. After denying them a normal life, constantly putting the family at risk, keeping plenty of secrets and now allegedly stealing Charlie from his birth family, Dina believes her "dad" is the villain and wants it to all end by going with the NSA.

It breaks Allie, who felt he had full control of the situation, but he just couldn't account for Dina's betrayal. Granted, Estelle might have made it all up. However, the fact that the cartel ends the episode by killing both agents means the truth may have died with them.

So now, as the Foxes go on the lam again, there's even more mistrust and discord sown. Margot also hates Allie for placing them in trouble, and a civil war is brewing on the domestic front. Allie has a lot to answer for regarding his past career, but Dina wants a more intimate, personal revelation as to what's up with her and Charlie's true lineage.

Starring Justin Theroux, Melissa George, Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman, The Mosquito Coast airs Fridays on Apple TV+.
