Ahead of the debut next week of Mortal Kombat X for consoles and PC, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios have launched a free-to-play version of the fighting game for iOS devices. It's available for download now from the App Store, with the Android version coming soon to Google Play.

As the launch trailer below demonstrates, the mobile version features all of the limb-tearing, skull-crushing action we've come to expect from the long-running franchise, but with a blend of fighting and card collection -- presumably similar to NetherRealm's Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Initially, the roster will feature more than 24 fighters, from old favorites like Scorpion and Sub-Zero to new characters like Cassie Cage and D'Vorah. Players will be able to collect upgradeable gear and unlock finishing moves. There are also daily events and multiplayer battles, with the promise of a Challenge Mode. What's more, the mobile game will be able to connect with the console and PC versions, which arrive April 14, enabling players to unlock "special content."
