The first tune from the official soundtrack for Mortal Kombat is now available for fans to listen to.

Titled "Techno Syndrome 2021," the track features composer Benjamin Wallfisch's take on the video game franchise's iconic theme. Keeping in line with its title, the track features a techno-influenced beat, spliced with sound samples from the video games including "Fight!" and "Test Your Might." In addition to being available on WaterTower Music's official YouTube channel, the track is also available to stream on a variety of music services including Spotify and Apple Music.

According to star Lewis Tan, Wallfisch's score was instrumental in convincing him to star in Mortal Kombat. "Simon sold me on that," Tan said while recalling how director Simon McQuoid would play samples from the soundtrack for prospective actors. "Because the score gave me an idea of where he was gonna take this, how tasteful it was gonna be done."

"I just played this bit of music for them, and they knew exactly the movie we were making," McQuoid added during an interview with Collider. Wallfisch had previously scored a number of films under Warner Bros.' umbrella, including Shazam and the It films. He also helped compose the score for Blade Runner 2049 with Hans Zimmer.

Directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan, Mortal Kombat stars Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Bridges, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Matilda Kimber as Emily Young and Laura Brent as Allison Young. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max April 23.
