Mortal Kombat Film Recruits Supergirl, Thor: Ragnarok Actors

New Line's upcoming Mortal Kombat film just cast four of the series' most popular characters.

According to The Hollywood ReporterSupergirl alum Mehcad Brooks will join the film as Jackson "Jax" Briggs alongside Sisi Stringer as Mileena and Power Rangers star Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, following reports of talks with the actor earlier this week. Additionally, Thor: Ragnarok actor Tadanobu Asano, who played Warriors Three member Hogun in that film, is in talks to play Raiden.

These four characters are some of the most important in all of the Mortal Kombat mythos. Liu Kang and Raiden appeared in 1992's Mortal Kombat, with Jax and Mileena joining the fray in the 1993 sequel. They've remained mainstays of the incredibly popular fighting game franchise since their first appearances.

They're joining Joe Taslim, who was announced as Sub-Zero last month. Joel Edgerton was also being eyed for the role of Kano. Plot details about the film are unknown at this time.

The Mortal Kombat reboot is produced by James Wan through New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. The screenplay is written by Greg Russo and marks the feature directorial debut of Simon McQuoid. The film is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2021.
