Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms intertwines many sinister threads to provide the "mad god" Shinnok the ultimate weapon. He's betrayed the Elder Gods, duping the robots of the Lin Kuei to get him the final kamidogu so he can unleash the One Being to destroy all the realms.

But in an explosive finale, Liu Kang ascends, using the power of the Elder Gods, to change the destiny of all reality.

The One Being Rises

Shinnok unleashes his Netherrealm demons on the Lin Kuei at his temple, where they rip the Grandmaster, Sektor and Cyrax apart. He then uses the kamidogu to merge with the One Being, becoming a giant titan meant to erase all the realms. But after beating Shao Kahn to avenge Raiden's death, Liu Kang arrives, and after being imbued with the Elder Gods' powers, he turns from a fire god into a dragon to battle his real nemesis.

Sadly, the dragon's mystical flames and strength aren't good enough, with the titan brutally beating it down. Liu Kang just isn't experienced enough, and while his allies -- Sonya, Kitana, Jax, etc. -- try to save the merging realms from demons before they're devoured by the titan's magic, it all seems to be a losing battle being fought.

The Deadly Alliance Arrives

Luckily, Scorpion and Sub-Zero arrive to help out, finally putting their differences aside. Sub-Zero realizes his clan was evil and easily manipulated, and that his brother, Bi-Han, was killed only after Quan Chi framed the ice ninja for murdering Scorpion's family. They combine forces, and using Sub-Zero's ice slides and frost blasts, they weaken the titan.

Scorpion uses his spear and sword as well to stab the beast, which allows the dragon to recharge and make one final attack. It culminates in the beast bringing the titan down and then a giant Liu Kang emerging. In this ethereal form, he uses his magic to crush the One Being, blowing its essence up and then separating the realms so they can all live free.

A New Beginning

Liu Kang descends from this godly plane, back to Outworld where all his allies are. He's gotten his humanity back, kissing Kitana as they forge a romance. Sonya Blade kisses Johnny Cage as well after he saved her from Baraka, so all is well. Liu Kang admits now it's time for the realms to make a path for themselves as the Elder Gods and tournament are both extinct.

The heroes admit that with Shao Kahn's body missing from the arena after Liu Kang's beatdown, there could be more invasions to come. However, the Shaolin warrior says they'll be ready to defend any realm as they're united and understand the battlefield better. It ends with lightning abound over the coliseum and a figure in the shadows with a hat looking on, hinting that Raiden might have been resurrected after giving up his godhood to fight with Earthrealm's soldiers.
