The Mortal Kombat reboot will feature its share of fights, and each fight will be distinct, according to producer Todd Garner.

"Every single fight in this movie has its own personality," Garner said during a press event for Mortal Kombat. "And it's true to not only the game, but it's true to the character. So I can't tell you who's fighting, but there's one of the most brutal fights I've ever seen on film. And it'll blow you [away]."

"It's the most violent, hand-to-hand, insane fight," Garner continued. "And it's not who you would expect to have the fight. There's also a beautiful operatic fight. There's swordsmanship and then you have a moment where you've seen in the trailer where Sub-Zero freezes Scorpion's blood and stabs him with it. So every fight has its own personality."

Garner had previously discussed how he wanted Mortal Kombat to feel more "authentic" in terms of its fight sequences and gore, which was born out of conversations with producer James Wan. He has also discussed potential spinoffs centered on various Mortal Kombat characters, including monk Liu Kang and masked mercenary Kabal, drawing inspiration from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's model.

Directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan, Mortal Kombat stars Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Bridges, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Matilda Kimber as Emily Young and Laura Brent as Allison Young. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max April 16.
