As one of the most popular characters in the entire Mortal Kombat franchise, Scorpion is responsible the fighting game's iconic catchphrase "Get over here!" and, in a new interview, co-creator Ed Boon explains the origins of the undead ninja's shout.

While promoting the upcoming release of the franchise's latest installment Mortal Kombat 11, Boon explained how he wound up recording the famous line ever since the series' original game, shouted whenever Scorpion drags an opponent to him from a spear launched from his hand.

"This is the first time I'm saying this. That was actually a takeaway from the last game I was working on, High Impact Football, where a lot of players were yelling crazy, stupid things at the end," explained Boon in an interview with Game Informer. "And I was still in that mode and I was one of the guys yelling in High Impact Football. So I called Scorpion."

Scorpion has been a staple in the fighting game as one of the seven original playable characters, harboring a longstanding grudge against rival ninja Sub-Zero. With the two slated to return in Mortal Kombat 11 later this month, this rivalry will soon heat up once again.
