Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms, the latest animated adaption of the ultra-violent franchise, surprised fans by making Ultra Instinct Shaggy canon.

Battle of the Realms opens with the familiar WB Animation logo which is quickly opened by fan-favorite Mortal Kombat character Scorpion. After leaping about the screen, doing all sorts of flips and brandishing his chains, the logo is opened up once again by none other than Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo franchise. Yet this Shaggy seems different...

Surrounded by a bright green aura, his eyes glowing menacingly, Shabby grabs Scorpion by the neck and drags him back down into Netherrealm, Mortal Kombat's version of Hell. "Zoinks! Get over here, man!" exclaims Shaggy, a cruel smirk on his face. Once Scorpion disappears, Scooby's usually relaxed owner returns to the shot to overwhelm the audience with his blinding power and slams the logo shut. It's currently unknown whether Shaggy was using more than 1% of his power.

The short clip is a fun nod to a beloved meme that made a name for itself in 2017. Denizens of the internet began proclaiming Shaggy as the most powerful fictional being ever created, largely due to his brutal combat efficiency in Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur. The joke was accented with the title of Ultra Instinct, a new power level achieved by Goku in Dragon Ball Super.

Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, took to Twitter following the release of the brief clip. In excitement, Boon writes, "HOLY KRAP! You people were right all along! #ShaggyKonfirmed." His tweet is likely a reference to several rumors that Ultra Instinct Shaggy would appear as a DLC character in a Mortal Kombat game following a popular fan petition.

Unfortunately, while Ultra Instinct Shaggy appears in the opening logos of Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms, he never actually appears in the film's narrative. This is likely due to the fact that Shaggy's existence within the movie would render all other characters powerless and thus end the story too quickly.

Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms is available now on Blu-Ray and through digital platforms.
