The first KombatKast for Mortal Kombat 11 started off with a bang but may have ultimately left fans disappointed with one hard de-confirmation.
As the inaugural installment of the NetherRealm Studios live-streaming series showcasing new fighters wrapped up, community manager Tyler Lansdown took questions from fans and addressed a popular meme: that of Scooby-Doo character Shaggy appearing in Mortal Kombat 11.

“Shaggy will never appear in Mortal Kombat,” Lansdown said emphatically, staring directly at the camera. “Dead meme.”
The Shaggy meme took off on websites such as Twitter and Reddit in recent months, jokingly portraying Shaggy as an all-powerful entity similar to a Dragon Ball character, who was only using a fraction of his power to keep the universe intact.
With the reveal of Mortal Kombat 11 occurring at the same time, several fan petitions came out to get Shaggy as a playable character in the game. That it was addressed so quickly and definitively on the first KombatKast indicated NetherRealm Studios definitely heard the fans. Nevertheless, the demands fell on deaf ears.
The studio did, however, follow this up with a bit of good news. While no definitive schedule has been set for the KombatKast, the next installment is scheduled for next Thursday. It was also confirmed that there would be a reveal of another character that day, and this would be a female fighter.
The KombatKast is a tradition dating back to Mortal Kombat X, a series of live streams in which Lansdown and designer Derek Kirtzic show off new characters in the game before it’s release and make various announcements about the future of the game. Today, it confirmed Mortal Kombat 3’s Kabal as a playable fighter in the game.

Mortal Kombat 11 is expected to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on April 23.
