Ed Boon took to Twitter with the hashtag #ActualKlue recently, dropping several cryptic hints towards the next DLC fighter to join Mortal Kombat 11's roster.  These hints included references to '80s movies, Queen songs and even an obscure MK character.

Mortal Kombat 11 fans have been awaiting new DLC since the Aftermath expansion, and have, of course, tore apart his Twitter speculating as to who the next character (or characters) could be. With plenty of fan-favorite characters, such as Mileena and Ermac, still missing from the roster, there has been speculation on which kombatant will be announced next.  Ed Boon has, at the time of writing, released a total of 5 Tweets teasing the next character, as well as one stating fans won't see Mortal Kombat Deception's Kobra.

Rain

Rain Mortal Kombat

The most popular fan theory(and the second most vocal, after Mileena fans) would be Rain. The purple-clad, water-bending ninja certainly makes sense from a legacy perspective. Rain's first "appearance" was in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as a bit of a troll by the developers. Rain wasn't playable in the arcade version, where he appeared as an attract mode character intended to tease players into thinking there was a way to unlock him. Rain, whose name and appearance are a reference to music icon Prince, wouldn't become playable until UMK3's console ports.

Fans believe that Ed Boon is teasing Rain's return because many of his hints seem to link to Prince. In addition to multiple references to the number six, one tweet linked to a trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Streetwhich released in 1984, the same year as Prince's sixth studio album, Purple Rain. Rain has long been a heavily demanded character by fans, and one that very clearly connects Ed Boon's clues.

Nitara

Nitara's Apperence in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

Nitara is certainly one of the stranger designs in Mortal Kombat's history. Hailing from Outworld, Nitara is a vampire (otherwise known as Moroi) with two previous playable appearances in Mortal Kombat; Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and the final 3D-era title, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

Nitara seems to be another strong guess that matches up with Ed Boon's hints. The Queen lyric appears to relate to Nitara's ability to fly, which is an important part of her move set. Meanwhile, fans claim that Boon's A Nightmare on Elm Street hint could also be a strong indication towards Nitara, as she's a "Nightmare" herself. It's a stretch, but Nitara has already factored into Mortal Kombat 11 -- she's implied to be a former lover of gunslinger Erron Black and the blood witch Skarlet, and Skarlet's gear contains references to Nitara.

Kai

Kai from Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Kai was part of Mortal Kombat 4's plan to introduce a new generation of fighters and was poised to be the new Liu Kang. The Shaolin Monk was only playable in Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, though he later had a cameo in the Mortal Kombat X tie-in comic.

Ed Boon captioned his tweet of Kobra with "6 degrees..." alluding to the popular social construct "six degrees of separation." This could be a reference to Cobra Kai, the antagonist dojo from 1984's The Karate Kid. Ed Boon has also been tweeting quite a bit recently about The Karate Kid, and it's streaming spin-off, Cobra Kai, possibly trying to push fans onto the right track.

Scarecrow (DC)

Scarecrow-Injustice-2

NetherRealm Studios develops both the Mortal Kombat and Injustice fighting game series, with Batman villain Scarecrow making his debut in Injustice 2. With his genuinely creepy appearance and fear-toxin, Scarecrow feels like a guest character that would be right at home in the dark and gory world of Mortal Kombat. The two series crossed over once already with Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath by adding the Joker to the game.

Boon's tweets even contain several hints that could apply to Scarecrow. The connection between Scarecrow and A Nightmare on Elm Street is an obvious one, with both being about the power of fear. Also, Freddy Kruger's actor, Robert Englund, voices Scarecrow in Injustice 2. "Bohemian Rhapsody" contains several references to dreams and the "open your eyes, look up to the sky" line that Boon focuses on could reference how the player in 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum defeated Scarecrow during the second nightmare: by pointing the Bat Signal up in the sky.

Havik

Mortal Kombat Deception Havik

Those who have played through Joker's arcade ladder in Mortal Kombat 11 are probably familiar with this native of Chaosrealm, Havik. A cleric of Chaos, Havik neither good nor evil; he simply is, and has a reputation as an agent of chaos in Seido, the Realm of Order. Havik was only playable in Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat; Armageddon, but he's made frequent cameo appearances throughout Mortal Kombat games. Developers have also stated he nearly made a return on several occasions.

Havik matches a lot of the "six" related clues, as he made his debut in the sixth game, Deception. "Opening your eyes" could also be taken as seeing through a lie or a deception. He is also only a few degrees of separation from Kobra as his organization, the Black Dragon, frequently seeks refuge in Chaosrealm. Ed Boon's emphasis on the number six could be pointing fans in the direction of Deception for answers.
