In the latest character reveal trailer, the former Edenia princess can be seen wielding her bladed-fans and slicing and dicing, reminding fans why they fell in love with her when she debuted in 1993's Mortal Kombat II.
Facing down the bug empress D'Vorah, Kitana takes center stage and shows off many of her classic movies, such as her signature fan hurls and mini-tornadoes. But what stands out is her teleporting abilities, which seem similar to her evil clone, Mileena, as well as her barrage of mid-air kicks, apparently influenced by her lover, Liu Kang.
What's also interesting is Kitana appears to have lost her iconic mask for good, and is being treated here like royalty by what looks like Edenian subjects in her gameplay entrance. This could be the Kitana from the past, as MK11 is a time-travel extravaganza, especially when you factor in the real Kitana was last seen as an undead revenant ruling the Netherrealm with the soulless Liu Kang.
Her speed, agility, reflexes, not to mention the gory Fatality where she carves D'Vorah up is certainly a testament as to why Kitana is considered one of the most devious characters ever envisioned by the franchise. This will mark Kitana's 19th Mortal Kombat game in addition to appearances in both of the live-action movies, the online series Mortal Kombat: Legacy and the old TV series Mortal Kombat: Conquest.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases on April 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
