During the first Kombat Kast livestream for Mortal Kombat 11, Netherrealm Studios announced what all fans had been hoping for: Kabal is joining the game's roster. He was briefly seen during the game's reveal in mid-January, but the studio had never shown off gameplay footage for him during the event. This new trailer makes it well worth the wait.
Kabal first arrived in Mortal Kombat 3 as a member of Kano's organization the Black Dragon. He was considered one of the most powerful members of that game's roster, and received fan and critical acclaim to go along with it. His appearances have been sporadic following the game, though he did return in the 2011 reboot. One thing that Netherrealm noted is that one of his costumes in the game will show his body before it was burned. At one point, the character was meant to be in 2000's Mortal Kombat: Special Forces unburnt, but had to be cut.
For MK11, Netherrealm opted to have him use his hookblades compared to previous games, and he is considered both a great mid-range fighter and one that would be perfect for beginning players. As the trailer shows, those combined with his speed makes for a formidable opponent. His reveal comes not long after Kano's last week, though the cyborg has yet to have a gameplay trailer of his own.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases on Apr. 23 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
