NetherRealm Studios is releasing the latest DLC for the Mortal Kombat 11 later this month titled, Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. This expansion, which releases on May 26, adds three new characters: RoboCop, Sheeva and Fujin. Fans have requested the God of Wind's return for years, and this will mark the first time Fujin has been playable in the series since 1997.

Fujin originally debuted in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, but he was not a playable character until the release of Mortal Kombat 4. Fujin is the brother of Raiden, God of Thunder. He is based on the Shinto God of Wind with whom he shares a name. In Mortal Kombat 4, Fujin fought alongside Raiden and the defenders of Earthrealm against Shinnok. They emerge victorious and were able to force Shinnok into the Netherealm. After, Fujin assumes his brother's role as protector of Earthrealm after Raiden ascends from God to Elder God.

Fujin has made a few cameos over the years since Mortal Kombat 4, most notably in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. However, he did not surface in the new timeline until Mortal Kombat X. Even then, he was not available as a playable character.

In Mortal Kombat X, Fujin is seen fighting alongside his brother Raiden, aiding him in defending Earthrealm from Shinnok once again. While defending the Sky Temple from Shinnok, Fujin is almost defeated at the hands of Sindel, but he's rescued by Raiden. The two are eventually overwhelmed by Shinnok and his forces and are on the verge of being imprisoned when Johnny Cage comes to their aid. Cage engages him in battle and imprisons him within his own amulet.

With the return of Fujin to the series as a playable character in Aftermath, NetherRealm is promising to provide more than just a DLC character. It is pitching an entire storyline in which players will not only get to play as Fujin again but will get to know more about him as a character. Player will finally be able to see how he interacts with other series mainstays. This is a first for Fujin and happens all while furthering a new and exciting timeline in the series that has drastically diverged from his original one in which he became the protector of Earthrealm.

Aftermath will take place immediately after the conclusion of the base game, with Fujin being one of the prisoners released from captivity after Kronika's defeat. After losing Kronika's crown in their timeline, they face the reality bending issue of being unable to restore the timeline without it. Fujin will be among the characters that Liu Kang and Raiden will be sending back in time to retrieve it in order to set things right once and for all.
