Out for over a year, Mortal Kombat 11 featured dueling timelines as Raiden and Liu Kang rewrote history to prevent Kronika and Dark Raiden's tampering with the franchise's main timeline.

NetherRealm Studios has teased an expansion to the story mode, with a full announcement slated for May 6. The teaser clip has Raiden and an older Liu Kang beginning to write a new future, having succeeded in the canonical ending to Mortal Kombat 11's original story mode.

However, as Liu Kang begins to weave a new, better timeline to completely undo Kronika's actions, he and Raiden find themselves interrupted by the arrival of their old enemy Shang Tsung.

Shang Tsung was the first downloadable character added to the popular fighting game, having menaced the heroes of the franchise since the original 1992 arcade classic. Since then, the game has expanded its downloadable roster of fighters, with the Joker and Spawn among the guest warriors to join the proceedings.
