Fans of Peter Jackson will embark on a new type of adventure when Mortal Engines hits theaters in late 2018.
Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for the Jackson-produced adaptation of the popular novel. Instead of giving us an explanatory introduction to this new world, the teaser plunges us right in the middle of the action. While short on story and footage, it does introduce us to the steampunk version of the mighty London. We see it on the prowl as it makes easy prey of a much smaller vehicle.
The movie was co-written by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippas Boyen and directed by Christian Rivers. Based on the first of four novels by British author Philip Reeve, the film takes place in a dystopian-like future where London is now a massive machine-like city on wheels that consumes what it can to survive. Set a thousand years in the future, where following the event of an apocalyptic “Six-Minute War” big cities now travel the globe on wheels, devouring opposing cities for depleting resources.
The first book has won numerous awards, including the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, the Smarties Gold Award and the Blue Peter Book of the Year. There are three other books in the series, Predator’s Gold, Infernal Devices and A Darkling Plain.
Set for release on Dec. 14, 2018, Mortal Engines is directed by Christian Rivers the film, which stars Robert Sheehan as Tom Natsworthy, Hera Hilmar as Hester Shaw, Stephen Lang as Chrysler Peavy, Hugo Weaving as Thaddeus Valentine, Robert Sheehan as Tom Natsworthy, Colin Salmon as Chudleigh Pomeroy and Ronan Raftery as Bevis Pod.
