Two new episodes of Moriarty the Patriot will be included in the mystery thriller anime's DVD/Blu-ray release.
The update was shared on the official website for the Moriarty the Patriot anime, which announced that the latest in the series' OVA DVD/Blu-Ray home releases will include two bonus episodes, which will release first in Japan on April 27, 2022. The first episode, titled "Recollection of Lily," will tell an original story, while the second, "Moriarty Family Holiday," will cover a previously unadapted chapter from the manga.
The DVD/Blu-ray release will also contain a mini-character illustration sheet and an eight-page booklet with a case sketched by series character designer, Tooru Ookubo. An advanced screening of the first episode will be held on March 5, 2022, at the Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo, with several of the series' voice actors joining the presentation, including such as the voice of William James Moriarty, Soma Saito, Sherlock Holmes voice actor Makoto Furukawa, and Yuki Ono, the voice behind John H. Watson. Also joining the presentation are Takuya Satō, the voice of Albert James Moriarty, and Chiaki Kobayashi, who voices Louis James Moriarty.
Moriarty the Patriot is a manga series written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi. The story is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels and is centered on the youth of William James Moriarty, one of Sherlock Holmes' recurring major antagonists. The ongoing manga began serialization on Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in 2016 and, at the time of writing, fifteen volumes have been compiled and published. Viz Media is localizing the series for western audiences, with five volumes currently translated.
An anime adaptation was produced by animation studio Production I.G. (Psycho-Pass, Guilty Crown), airing 24 episodes from October 2020 to June 2021. The series was directed by Kazuya Nomura, with Ookuba handling character design, as well as the role of chief animation director. Moriarty the Patriot received positive reviews at its release, with fans of the show praising its stellar animation, intriguing characters and tasteful themes tackling class struggle. The sixth volume of the manga is set for release Jan. 4, 2022.
Eight DVD/Blu-ray volumes of Moriarty the Patriot are currently available for purchase, with the ninth set for home release on April 27, 2022. Moriarty the Patriot is currently available for streaming on Funimation and Netflix.
