As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to bring classic characters through their television shows, fans are beginning to see Marvel Comics being played out before their eyes. Shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Cloak & Dagger have showcased the various sides of the Marvel Universe. One such example of this is The Runaways.

The show about teens with powers who learn their parents are villains is about to enter its third season. With Elizabeth Hurley recently cast as Morgan le Fay, it’s time to discover ten things fans may never have known about the Marvel villain.

10 Based On Arthurian Legend

One of the first thing casual fans need to know is that le Fay is loosely based on the character of the same name (or other names including Morgana) from the Legend of King Arthur. The character was brought to life by legendary Marvel icons Stan Lee and Joe Maneely, and has been one of the most powerful magical threats the Marvel Universe has ever known.

What will be very interesting to see is just how much of the classic literary character will be incorporated into Hurley’s turn as the villainess, as opposed to her portrayal in the classic comics.

9 Can Control Time

One of the many aspects of le Fay that fans will most likely see come to life on Hulu’s The Runaways is her ability to astral project herself throughout time. Originally from the 6th Century, Morgan uses her abilities to project herself into the future, often trying to possess and manipulate others in the current timeline to serve her or act as her vessel.

One such example of this early on in her career included her essentially haunting and creating hallucinations for Spider-Woman in order to manipulate the hero into serving her, but she was stopped by Magnus then.

8 Can Manipulate Reality

More technically, le Fay can manipulate mystical energies to alter reality. One of the best examples of this was when she managed to lure and capture the Scarlet Witch, a powerful hero and mutant who has reality altering powers.

Using the Scarlet Witch to bridge her faerie magic side to Asgardian magic by bridging the Norn Stones to the Twilight Sword, Morgan was able to restructure reality to make the modern day into a medieval times scenario. Despite being defeated by the heroes, le Fay is known to be able to manipulate this energy, making her a truly dangerous foe.

7 Uses Mind Controlled Pawns Rather Than Fight Herself

One of her most basic yet important abilities has to be the ability to manipulate and control people’s minds. Several times throughout her career, le Fay has used her natural fae given abilities to take control of others and turn them into villains of her own creation to serve her purpose across time and reality.

This is one of her greatest strengths, as it allows her to enforce her will and fight her enemies without having to actually physically be there. This prove affective especially when faced with foes like the Avengers, who become a constant thorn in her side.

6 Can Summon Hordes Of Demons

What may not be shocking is that a lot of her own power stems from her dabbling in the dark arts, most notoriously dark or black magic. Yet what is surprising is just how much she has mastered those arts. During the Dark Reign storyline, le Fay became one of the first villains the villain turned “anti-hero” team faced.

During this storyline, she traveled through time and summoned an entire army of demons to fight as her underlings, using them to take on the likes of Doctor Doom and the Dark Avengers throughout her campaign against the villainous Doom.

5 Once Trained Doctor Doom In Dark Arts

Why was she so angry with Doom? Enough to travel through time with an army of demons to defeat him? Well, as it turns out, Doom was an apprentice of hers for a time.

Having traveled through time to learn the dark arts from le Fay, Doom sought to be trained to bring his mother from the bowels of Hell, and later became romantically involved for a brief period with the villainess. Yet when Doom failed to live up to the bargain she made with him to provide an army of Mindless Ones to him, she took it quite personally.

4 Fought Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers

10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Marvel’s Morgan le Fay 5

As mentioned above, the first villain the Dark Avengers faced was none other than le Fay. Led by Norman Osborn sporting the Iron Patriot armor, she fought off the Dark Avengers during her campaign against Doom.

What made the battle between the Dark Avengers and le Fay so interesting is that Osborn and Doom were forced to work together to take on le Fay in her own timeline. The battle was fierce, but due to her being half fae, she found herself vulnerable to the vast amount of iron in both Osborn and Doom’s suits, she was truly, utterly defeated.

3 Can See Events Has They Happen Anywhere In Time Or Space

One of the most incredible abilities the ancient sorceress has is the ability to see events as they are happening anywhere in time and space. This is quite an advantage to have over one’s enemies, as she likes to point out regularly to her foes when revealing a time shattering piece of news.

This actually happened when Osborn and Doom went to her timeline during the Dark Reign era to stop her as a threat. She warned Doom that she witnessed him betraying her, and that he would not hesitate to betray Osborn as well, messing with the men’s minds.

2 She Is Half-Faerie

While a lot of her power comes from centuries of training and practice, (some of which she spent as a high priestess in a cult known as Darkhold), a good portion of her power derives around her natural abilities gained from her being half faerie.

While it’s definitely a leg up to have her abilities come naturally to her, her fae side does come with its downsides. One such downside is the fact that she is vulnerable to cold steel or iron, southing that all fae have, and therefore can be hurt both in her astral and physical body forms.

1 Once Took Over The World Using Scarlet Witch’s Powers

Yes, as mentioned earlier, le Fay used the Scarlet Witch to alter reality. Bridging the Norn Stones and the Twilight Sword, she changed the world completely, turning the world into a medieval times era style of the world.

While it’s unlikely that we’ll see Elizabeth Olsen bringing the Scarlet Witch to the small screen anytime soon, it is fun to think that stars like Elizabeth Hurley could bring their own brand of villainy to shows like Hulu’s The Runaways and bring classic Marvel stories like this to life themselves. How le Fay will fit into the Runaways narrative isn’t known.
