"He was just a lovely, lovely man," Morita's Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler recalls in the trailer. Meanwhile, Morita's Karate Kid co-star William Zabka reflects on the actor's challenging life, noting, "I mean, he was in a cast for like nine years. From his knees to his neck, for his childhood."

In addition to showcasing Morita's triumphs on the big and small screens, Derek's film will explore Morita's childhood battle with spinal tuberculosis, his early days as a stand-up comedian and his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction later in life. Robert Mark Kamen, co-creator of The Karate Kid, seemed to confirm these sentiments, saying of Morita, "He had a lot of inner demons. He struggled a lot with depression."

In addition to earning an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Mr. Miyagi, Morita earned an Emmy nomination for playing Tommy Tanaka in the TV movie Amos.

Actor Pat Morita passed away of natural causes in 2005 at age 73.

Following Morita's passing, the character of Mr. Miyagi has lived on in the first three seasons of Cobra Kai through the use of archival footage and references by other characters. Cobra Kai is currently streaming on Netflix.

More Than Miyagi premieres on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and other streaming platforms on Feb. 5.
