Comic books and the characters within have often been able to mirror reality in a number of ways. While we, as readers, aren't able to fly or shoot energy blasts from our eyes, we do have families and problems of our own. Comic writers and artists have worked tirelessly over the years to try and mirror this in their stories. Peter Parker struggles with his finances while Piotr Rasputin worries about his sister. Family relationships have been a major part of comic book stories for decades and when you have one person in a family with superpowers, it's not rare for someone else in the clan to have them as well.

When there is more than one super-powered person in a family, sooner or later readers are going to want to know who is more powerful. Like real families, these siblings often fight against one another, but unlike families in the real world, these fights can get a little out of hand. We decided it would be fun to look through some of the most prominent super-powered siblings throughout comics and try and determine once and for all, which brother or sister was more powerful. While we couldn't include absolutely everyone, we came up with our favorites. If we left out one of yours, let us know in the comments and tell us who is the most powerful.

20 DOCTOR STRANGE > BARON BLOOD

Doctor Strange has been around since he first debuted in Strange Tales #110, written by Stan Lee and penciled by Steve Ditko in 1963. It wasn't revealed until 1989 that he even had a brother and there's a pretty good reason for it. Stephen's brother, Victor, was in a devastating car wreck years ago when Stephen was still working as a surgeon. It happened shortly after the two brothers got into a heated argument, which only added to Stephen's guilt over the whole ordeal. Victor didn't die, but was so badly injured, he was forced to place him in cryogenic stasis to keep him alive.

Years later, Stephen used a magical spell to try and revive his brother and it works... sort of.

Instead of returning to life as a regular guy, he woke up as a vampire instead. He became something of a reluctant bloodsucker insistent on drinking from criminals instead of feeding indiscriminately. He went around town in purple tights as the anti-hero Baron Blood, but was so guilt-ridden over his existence, he took his own life by staking himself through the heart. Unlike most comic book characters, Victor has remained deceased and seeing as his brother is the Sorcerer Supreme, he falls behind in determining which sibling is more powerful... also, he's dead so that doesn't help his case.

19 DARKSEID > INFINITY MAN

In DC Comics, Darkseid is known as one of the most powerful villains around, but unknown to most readers, he has a brother. The origin of Drax and how he became Infinity Man is somewhat convoluted due to DC's penchant for reshaping its universe every couple of years, but it all began when Drax was killed by his brother, Prince Uxas, aka Darkseid, on his way to becoming the leader of Apokolips. It turned out Drax survived his murder, but was badly burned in the process. He was nursed back to health by Astorr, who passed on the mantle of Infinity Man to a newly recovered Drax.

Infinity Man is a near infinitely powerful super-powered being who possesses immortality, super strength and durability, flight, the ability to phase through matter, magnetokinesis, teleportation, telepathy and a power called "Infinity Beams." Drax is comparable in power to his brother, but while he is powerful in his own right, he falls just short of Darkseid thanks to his possession of Omega Powers via the Omega Force. Throw in Darkseid's ruthless dictatorial nature and the leader of Apokolips takes the lead in a power standoff between these two brothers. Infinity Man hasn't appeared in many issues over the years so future versions might demonstrate greater levels of power, but for now, Darkseid takes the lead.

18 SCARLET WITCH > QUICKSILVER

Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, and her brother Pietro, aka Quicksilver, are one of the best known brother-sister pairs in Marvel Comics. The two began their career on the side of evil and eventually went over to the good side, with Wanda becoming a member of the Avengers, while Pietro can count himself a member of the Avengers, Inhumans and X-Factor to name a few. While their origin story has been tweaked by Marvel a couple of times, they are generally accepted as the offspring of Magneto and are very close... too close... in the Ultimate Universe, but we aren't going to get into that right now.

In terms of power, Quicksilver has the ability to run really fast while his sister has the ability to warp reality.

The comic book versions differ from their on-screen depictions, but the comic book version is significantly more powerful than most other characters in the Marvel Universe. Wanda's reality warping powers allowed her to wipe out nearly all Mutants in existence and she even created children of her own who weren't real at first, but went on to become actual, real and powerful people. Quicksilver is certainly powerful, but compared to his sister's ability to warp space, matter and time, he barely registers as a superpowered being.

17 THANOS > STARFOX

If all you know of Thanos comes from Avengers: Infinity War, you don't know much about the Mad Titan. Thanos has about as dysfunctional a family backstory as anyone on this list and it turns out, he has a brother. Thanos' story begins on Saturn's moon Titan, where he was born to A'Lars and Sui-San who were members of the Eternals. His mother tried to kill him when he was born, which may have been a contributing factor to his brutally torturing her and killing her years later. Thanos would only play with one person while growing up: his brother Eros of Titan, aka Starfox.

Starfox was initially a playful and carefree guy who loved his brother, but thanks to Thanos' desire to destroy half of all life in the universe and his romantic desires on Death herself, they came into conflict with one another. Starfox has a number of super powers inherent to members of the Eternals race, which he uses to fight the good fight against his brother. In terms of power-levels, Thanos edges out Starfox due to his enhancements. Over the years, Thanos increased his abilities through science, technology and cosmic forces, which helped him to achieve his goals. It also had the effect of making him more powerful than a standard Eternal like his brother.

16 PSYLOCKE > CAPTAIN BRITAIN

Psylocke, otherwise known as Elizabeth Braddock, is well known to fans of the X-Men and anyone who watched X-Men: Days of Future Past, which featured Olivia Munn's take on the character. Psylock comes from a relatively large family, which includes Jamie Braddock Jr. and her twin brother, Brian Braddock, who is also known as Captain Britain. Jamie has a power all his own with the ability to pluck the strings of the universe and travel through space and time, so he doesn't compare to his brother and sister, which is why we are excluding him from this list.

Their powers are quite different, but Psylocke takes the edge.

Psylocke has the ability to generate psychic blasts and is a highly skilled martial artist. She can also create psi-blades, which are tangible weapons willed into existence by her powerful psychic abilities. Her brother's powers were once tied into his suit, but have since adapted to his person giving him superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability and endurance alongside the ability to create force fields, energy beams and fly. His abilities are tied to his confidence levels or his proximity to the interdimensional well of powers from which he draws strength, which can sometime limit how powerful he becomes. Between the two, their powers are quite different, but Psylocke takes the edge over her brother due to her incredible fighting skills, telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

15 SWAMP THING > EDWARD HOLLAND

It turns out Swamp Thing has a brother, and if you don't know anything about him, it's likely due to the fact that he only appeared in two issues and was quickly forgotten about soon after. Alec Holland, aka Swamp Thing, decided he would turn to his brother to help him cast off his curse and return to human form. He went to Edward for help and thankfully, he was easily able to switch him back. This all went down in Swamp Thing #23, written by Gerry Conway and penciled by Nestor Redondo in 1976.

Edward made another appearance in the following issue and would have remained had the series stuck around. Swamp Thing was cancelled after issue 24; though #25 was penciled, it was never published. The plan was to treat Swamp Thing like the Hulk by having Alec transform into a mindless version of his super-powered better half in pretty much the same manner as Bruce Banner. He ended up getting reverted back to his original form a year later in the books and the whole episode involving his brother was quietly forgotten. Seeing as Swamp Thing is one of the most powerful entities in DC Comics, his human brother isn't comparable in levels of power... even if he was able to turn him back into a human once upon a time.

14 J'ONN J'ONZZ > MA'ALEFA'AK

J’onn J’onzz, aka the Martian Manhunter, is the sole survivor of the planet Mars... at least, that's what we were led to believe, though his origin story has been modified numerous times since the character was first introduced back in Detective Comics #225, written by Joseph Samachson and penciled by Joe Certa in 1955. As we all know, DC has no problem changing the origins of its characters with a reboot here and there, and the Martian Manhunter has been no exception to this rule.

Back in the '90s, J'onzz got a reboot that changed his origin story significantly.

Previously, Martian society had been depicted in a number of ways such that originally, it was alive and well while later versions showed it had been destroyed through war. The new origin involved the introduction of J'onzz's brother, Ma’alefa’ak, who was the embodiment of evil. He was a follower of Darkseid who had been stripped of his telepathic abilities after attacking his brother's wife. He decided the best way to get even was to unleash a telepathic plague onto his people, which made them burn themselves to death. After learning of his brother's survival, he traveled to Earth to hunt him down, but was killed by fire, which is appropriate given his past actions. Seeing as he is dead, he loses the power-struggle to J'onn J'onzz, who is arguably one of the most powerful superheroes in DC Comics.

13 AQUAMAN > OCEAN MASTER

Aquaman is one of the most iconic superheroes to come out of the Golden Age of Comics. He has gone through his fair share of changes over the years with an origin story that has seen a few retcons or two, but through them all, he has always had a brother he didn't get along with. Arthur Curry's brother, Orm Marius, made his comic book debut back in 1966 with the publication of Aquaman #29, written by Bob Haney and penciled by Nick Cardy. Like his brother, he has gone through a few changes over the years and will see his cinematic debut in 2018's Aquaman.

The brothers are vastly different people, with Orm originating as a petty criminal who went down a dark path. He sold his soul and became a high-tech pirate who decided his best goal in life would be to take over the throne of Atlantis and unseat his brother. The two have a classic case of sibling rivalry, only it culminates in world-conquering schemes involving the entirety of the world's oceans. In terms of powers, they have almost identical ones, but being a good guy, Aquaman stands above his brother. Also, he has the Trident of Neptune while Orm just has a trident that controls the weather, giving Arthur him the edge.

12 SCOTT SUMMERS > ALEX SUMMERS

Scott Summers' Cyclops has been a mainstay for the Marvel Universe's X-Men franchise since he first appeared in X-Men #1, written by Stan Lee and penciled by Jack Kirby in 1963. Since that time, he has become the embodiment of a true leader with skills and qualities enabling him to lead the X-Men through adversity and into the 21st century. There's no arguing that Cyclops is a powerful mutant given his ability to shoot optic force blasts of nearly unparalleled power.

Cuclops' blasts are able to topple mountains they are so powerful, but he isn't alone in the Summers clan... he has a brother named Alex.

Alex Summers has powers somewhat similar to those of his brother. As the superhero Havoc, he has shown an ability to generate powerful plasma blasts, which he can fire at enemies. Like his brother, he has difficulty controlling his abilities, though he doesn't require a special visor to keep them in check. We should mention, they have an even younger brother, Vulcan, but we wanted to keep this entry to the first two brothers in the Summers family. Taking the vastly more powerful Vulcan off the table, in terms of power, we have to give the lead to Scott, due in large part to his level-headed ability to command and lead a team into battle. Havoc has shown resentment for Cyclops' abilities in this area, which put him just below his brother in terms of true power.

11 ANGELA > THOR

If you've seen Thor: Ragnarok, you know that Thor and Loki were completely unaware of the existence of their older sister, Hela. As it happens, Hela wasn't the only secret Odin was keeping from his children. Angela was first created for Image Comics by Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane for Spawn, but was brought over to Marvel Comics during the "Age of Ultron" storyline. During the "Original Sin" storyline, her origin is revealed making her Aldrif, the daughter of Odin and Freyja. This of course made her Thor and Loki's sister, but her backstory is complicated and involves the Tenth Realm, which Odin cut off from the other Nine after he thought she was killed.

Angela was born an Asgardian, but thanks to the war between Asgard and the Angels of Heven, she takes on the abilities of the Angels. She is a master of hand-to-hand combat, can fly, and possesses the standard set of superhuman abilities including strength, speed, stamina, agility, endurance and reflexes. She is also immortal and carries an angelic sword. Thor is powerful too, of course; in fact, he's, by far, one of the most powerful characters in Marvel Comics. Compared to his older sister, though, he isn't anywhere near her  Angelic levels of power. Angela takes the lead in this brother-sister battle of who has the most power.

10 CHARLES XAVIER > CASANDRA NOVA

Charles Xavier Killing Cassandra Nova In Womb

The story of Charles Xavier's twin sister is certainly a strange one. Cassandra began life as a non-corporeal parasitic entity who copied Charles' DNA in order to take human form within the womb. This made her a twin to Charles, which also bestowed upon her significant psionic abilities. Sensing the evil in his twin sister in utero, Charles attempted to kill her (all while still a fetus) and her physical body was stillborn. She managed to survive as a collection of cells that adhered to a sewer wall for years before finally retaking human form in the adult body of Cassandra Nova.

For all her strengths and powers rivaling those of her brother, she falls just below his power level in terms of psychic abilities.

Cassandra became a significant enemy to Charles and the X-Men over the years, even going so far as to commit the genocide of 16 million mutants on Genosha. Since she first appeared in New X-Men #114, written by Grant Morrison and penciled by Frank Quitely in 2001, she has gone on to become one of the deadliest villains in the X-Men universe. For all her strengths and powers rivaling those of her brother, she falls just below his power level in terms of psychic abilities. Granted, Charles has the entirety of the X-Men on his side in any conflict that sees these siblings go against one another, but that can be seen as one of his greatest strengths over his sister.

9 MAGIK > COLOSSUS

One of the most enduring sibling relationships in Mutantkind has to be the one between Piotr Rasputin, aka Colossus, and his sister Illyana, aka Magik. Like most Mutants, Colossus' powers took time to manifest and it took the near-death of his sister to do it. When she was about to be taken out by a runaway tractor, Piotr's powers manifested and he became Colossus for the first time. Years later, he was so distraught with her apparent death from the Legacy Virus, he allowed himself to die in order to transmit the cure to the world. Granted, they both got better, as comic book characters often do, but their relationship has remained strong over the years.

Illyana possesses Mutant abilities like her brother, though hers allow for inter-dimensional transportation and magical manipulation. She is a talented sorceress, which makes her exceptionally powerful. Colossus is one of the strongest people on Earth and certainly the strongest Mutant. With his organic steel skin, he is nearly invulnerable and can take on the likes of the Juggernaut and Apocalypse. Even with all his strength, he comes just a bit short of the power levels attained by his sister. Magik's magical abilities take the lead over Colossus' brute strength, even with Colossus being as powerful as he is.

8 JAMES HOWLETT > VICTOR CREED

When X-Men Origins: Wolverine came out in 2009, fans weren't too happy with some of the changes made to the characters on screen (Wade Wilson being the biggest issue). When it came to telling the origin story of James Howlett, otherwise known as Logan/Wolverine, the film used the comic series Origin, written by Bill Jemas, Joe Quesada and Paul Jenkins, with pencils by Andy Kubert. That story told the tale of James' Mutant abilities manifesting alongside his half-brother, Dog Logan.

For the film, this was expanded to made Dog into Victor Creed, otherwise known in Marvel Comics as Sabretooth.

The brothers share a similar set of powers. They both have the ability to heal from almost any injury, can track anyone anywhere thanks to their superhuman senses and they have retractable claws. Sabretooth's are on the tips of his fingers while James' are forced through his fist from his forearms. They have also been enhanced with Adamantium and are nearly indestructible. Compared to one another, they are almost an even match, but we have to give the edge to James due to his skills as a martial artist and the simple fact that he is a good guy and one of the most popular characters in Marvel Comics. Sometimes, popularity makes for a better character and Wolverine is certainly better than Sabretooth in this area; plus, he has definitely won more times.

7 SUSAN STORM > JOHNNY STORM

Not all the siblings on this list ended up coming into conflict with one another. Some are just close enough to form a team of superheroes known as the Fantastic Four alongside a couple of friends. Both Susan Storm and her brother Johnny made their first appearance in Fantastic Four #1, written by Stan Lee and penciled by Jack Kirby in 1961. Since that time, the two have been all but inseparable (except currently, where they are very much separated by universes), making them one of the best brother-sister teams in comics. Their relationship has always been a close one due to Sue being older and the one who raised Johnny after their mother passed and their father went to prison.

After they got their powers, they went on to fight against pretty much the biggest threats that faced Earth including Galactus and many more. In terms of power, Johnny, as the Human Torch, can burst into flames and project fire in numerous ways. Sue definitely won the prize when it comes to powers, though. She can turn herself and anything else invisible and also has the ability to project invisible forcefields, which doesn't sound as impressive as it is. She has demonstrated the ability to hold up immense weight, including buildings and can encase a person's head in a bubble effectively suffocating them. In terms of raw power, she is definitely the heavy-hitter in the family.

6 ALEXANDER POWER > JULIE, JACK & KATIE

Power Pack is an interesting team of superheroes, which formed after a group of siblings had superpowers bestowed upon them by a dying alien. With their ages ranging from between five and twelve, they made up one of the strangest sets of superheroes Marvel Comics put together. Their ages and the fact that brothers and sisters don't always get along made for a lot of infighting, but it never got so bad as it did when Alex, the oldest of the Power siblings, absorbed the powers of his brother and sisters into himself.

After absorbing his family's powers, Alex went on to join the New Warriors as the newly named superhero, Powerhouse, but this only increased the friction in the family.

Eventually, he went on to leave the superhero life after quitting the New Warriors, which was mostly due to his familial issues surrounding his decision to take his siblings' powers. Originally, he was limited to the ability to manipulate gravity, but his total package includes healing powers; at one time, he could fly, alter size and density as well as some other abilities. Over the years, the family swapped power sets a few times and they are all powerful in their own right, but Alex stands slightly above his siblings as the most powerful of the Power Pack... but it's a small margin to be sure.

5 MERLIN THE MAGICIAN > ETRIGAN THE DEMON

Etrigan the Demon was introduced in The Demon #1, written and penciled by Jack Kirby in 1972. At that time, he was introduced as a demon who was bound by the wizard Merlin into service. He was forced to bind his being to a human and use his powers to fight against evil magic on the Earthly plane. Years later, Etrigan went through a bit of retconning to alter his origin story just a little. He remained the same demon he always was, but his backstory was tweaked a bit to turn Merlin into more than just the guy who bound him into service; Merlin became Etrigan's half-brother.

It turned out Belial, Etrigan's father, found he could not control his unruly son. To handle the situation, he decided to have another baby, but this time, he made sure it was half-human who would possess incredible magical powers. The result was Merlin and the magician did as his father hoped by binding Etrigan into service. Years later, this change was again retconned by turning the new origin into a lie told by an evil magician, but this too would be retconned again when the New 52 rebooted everything in the DC Universe once more. In the battle between brothers, Merlin takes the lead, given his ability to bind Etrigan into unwilling service, but it's still a close race between two very powerful characters.

4 CAIN MARKO > CHARLES XAVIER

Juggernaut-ProfessorX

Professor Charles Xavier got himself a parasitic twin in the form of Cassandra Nova, but that isn't the full extent of his super-powered family. He also has a step-brother named Cain Marko who has some powers of his own to speak of. Unlike Charles, Cain isn't a Mutant and has no inherent powers of his own. That was until he came across an artifact known as a Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. The powerful gem bestows a portion of the power held by the mystical being Cyttorak on anyone who holds it. Cain transforms into a human Juggernaut who possesses near-incalculable levels of strength, endurance, healing and the ability to never be stopped once he begins moving.

While this is certainly a strength of Xaviers', pound-for-pound, the Juggernaut is far more powerful.

His step-brother, Charles, is the most powerful telepath on the planet with the ability to read and control people's minds, manipulate memory, project his astral form and attack via psychic means. There is very little than can stop Professor X from attacking someone with his abilities, but thanks to his armor and special helmet, the Juggernaut is not susceptible to them. This makes him far more powerful than Xavier, who must rely on the strengths and powers of his X-Men in order to battle his evil step-brother. While this is certainly a strength of Xaviers', pound-for-pound, the Juggernaut is far more powerful.

3 DORMAMMU > UMAR THE UNRELENTING

Many years ago, Doctor Strange finally saw the defeat of Dormammu at the hands of Eternity (don't worry, he got better) and a void was left in the Sorcerer Supreme's rogues gallery. Without a big bad like Dormammu threatening all of existence every other issue, the writers needed to bring in someone who could challenge Strange and keep the books interesting. Enter Dormammu's sister, Umar the Unrelenting. Umar was first introduced in Strange Tales #150, written by Stan Lee and penciled by Jack Kirby in 1966.

Umar had been trapped for eons by her brother who feared her immense power. With her brother now dead, she was able to escape and became a new threat for Doctor Strange to contend with. Umar never achieved the level of popularity as her brother had in the books, which is probably why you haven't heard of her. She is still around and has been modified over the years to make her more interesting, but she has ultimately fallen to the wayside in favor of her more interesting brother. Their power levels are fairly comparable, but Umar loses out in the battle of which sibling is more powerful simply due to the fact that the readers never fully embraced the character.

2 THOR > LOKI

The constant battle between Thor and Loki is probably the best know in and out of Marvel Comics. Thanks to the incredible portrayals of the characters by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, Thor and Loki's chaotic relationship is well know to people who have never even picked up a comic book. Loki is the son of Laufey, the King of the Frost Giants who is taken in by Odin, the King of Asgard when he was a baby. He was raised alongside his adoptive brother, Thor, and suffered from knowing he would always stand in his brother's shadow.

Loki may be powerful, but he is only the God of Mischief, which pales in comparison to the God of Thunder.

This created conflict between the two and they fought constantly as children. Their battles continued into adulthood and Loki became an incredibly powerful threat that pretty much everyone in the Marvel Universe had to contend with at one time or another. In terms of power, Loki has similar traits to other Asgardians and those from Jotunheim, but his strength lies in his cunning and magical abilities. Ultimately, he is far less powerful than the God of Thunder who relies on his brute strength, lightning-based abilities and the ability to team up with other powerful people when it comes time to teach his brother a lesson. Loki may be powerful, but he is only the God of Mischief, which pales in comparison to the God of Thunder.

1 FRANKLIN RICHARDS > VALERIA RICHARDS

Franklin and Valeria Richards

When two powerful people get together in comics, they tend to have powerful offspring. That was certainly the case when Reed Richards and Susan Storm married and had a couple of rugrats running around. Thanks to their abilities derived from exposure to special cosmic rays, their children were born Mutants, but with a twist when compared to others of their race. Franklin Richards, the oldest of the two was born with his abilities already intact. Normally, they would have manifested when he hit puberty, but his abilities are special; he can alter reality to suit his will.

His sister, Valeria Richards, has a number of abilities that range from empathy and telepathy to superhuman strength, invulnerability, invisibility, the ability to fly and many others. Her most prominent ability has to be her genius-level intellect, which rivals that of her father, Reed Richards. Ultimately, Franklin is far more powerful than his sister... and pretty much everyone else in the Marvel Universe. He has the ability to completely alter reality, which means he can destroy the universe or create one to keep in his back pocket. There is literally nothing he can't do, which is why he takes the lead above ever other brother/sister superhuman comparison on this list.
