Morbin' Time is not over quite yet for Morbius fans who are attending this year's San Diego Comic-Con since an in-person screening of the Sony Pictures film will be held at the event.

According to the official schedule for SDCC 2022, the screening will begin at 3:50 PM on Thursday, July 21. It will be held in Grand 5 of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina following a showing of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and before The Fifth Element. SDCC will also be showing Spider-Man: No Way Home, another Sony comic book movie, later that same day.

Unlike the Tom Holland-led Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Morbius was near-universally panned by critics and underperformed at the box office. In contrast to this, Morbius was seemingly loved by general audiences due to a large amount of discussion online surrounding the film following its release. This attention persuaded Sony to re-release Morbius in theaters for a single weekend in June, confident that the film would find greater financial success this time around.

In reality, the opposite occurred, and Morbius managed to become a financial failure for the second time. The discussions surrounding the film, which Sony seemingly interpreted as genuine interest, were actually a viral series of memes mocking the Jared Leto-headlined film. To add insult to injury, an online petition was created asking Sony to re-release Morbius in theaters for a third time, mocking the studio's multiple attempts to create a success out of the ill-conceived Spider-Man spinoff. "If [Sony] were to once again release Morbius in theaters, just let us know, and we will be there for sure," wrote the petition's creator. "Unless something comes up."

Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, Morbius is the third entry in Sony's Spider-Man Universe and stars Jared Leto and Matt Smith (or, as mistakenly spelled on SDCC's website, Jerod Leto and Mel Smith). Despite the film's failure, Sony has several more upcoming projects in the works for its own cinematic universe, including a film based on Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as well as a third Venom movie. Marvel Studios apparently offered help to Sony recently about how to manage this franchise, with an insider recently crediting "[Marvel head Kevin] Feige for guiding Sony's approach and warning the studio not to get too ahead of itself in terms of building some larger universe in the vein of the Avengers movies."

Morbius is available now on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
