Morbius -- a spinoff film based on the character of the same name -- may just end up being the next film in Sony's Spider-Verse after Venom hits theaters next week.

"Well, Morbius is very, very far along," producer Matt Tolmach told CinemaBlend. "So that's something that we're planning to go make in the very near future."

Although Tolmach didn't outright confirm that Morbius would be the next film in the Spider-Verse, it seems likely. Following the indefinite delay of Silver & BlackMorbius is certainly the film farthest along in the production process, as it already has its leading man in Jared Leto. There's no indication that the Living Vampire's solo film will meet with any delays, so it seems entirely possible that the film will be the next film to release after Venom. Sony is also reportedly developing movies based on Kraven the Hunter, Silk and Nightwatch.

Having first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, Michael Morbius was the brilliant but flawed biologist who is transformed into the gothic member of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. The character became a fan-favorite in the long-running ’90s cartoon Spider-Man: The Animated Series, featuring in several episodes, including his own self-titled episode, “Morbius.”
