Honest Trailers' new Morbius parody promo mocks the much-maligned blockbuster's continuity issues and star Jared Leto's bat-like superpowers.

The faux trailer calls out the film, set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, for trying to tie in with the canon of the more popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as other SSU franchises like Venom. It also takes aim at protagonist Michael Morbius' more inexplicable bat-derived powers and weaknesses, including the character's muscular physique, ability to mentally "force push" a swarm of bats at his enemies, and thirst for exclusively human blood. The video also lampoons Morbius' repeatedly delayed premiere date and the quality of its visual effects.

The Honest Trailer also includes several clips from Morbius' infamous dance scene, which recently had the movie trending on Twitter followings its digital release. The scene, which sees Matt Smith's Milo boogieing down while shirtless, left those who hadn't seen Morbius both shocked and amused when it surfaced on the social media platform. However, some users came to the scene's defense, arguing that Milo's dance makes more sense within the wider context of the film itself.

The recent rise and fall of a 24/7 Morbius livestream channel on Twitch further underscores the blockbuster's cult appeal on social media. The aptly named "Morbius247" channel racked up several thousand followers before Twitch admins shut it down in May 2022. The channel's chat section was notable for its high volume of spam comments referencing the popular "It's morbin' time" meme associated with the movie. Several new livestreams devoted to streaming Morbius around the clock have emerged since Morbius247's termination.

The Marvel adaptation's dubious reputation hasn't hurt its performance on officially sanctioned digital platforms, though. Morbius recently reached #1 on Apple TV, following its May 17 release on the app. Sony celebrated this milestone by tweeting "Thanks to everyone who's brought Dr. [Morbius] home for a house call!"

Many fans are now hoping that Sony will greenlight Morbius 2, despite the film's underwhelming box office haul and poor critical reception. What's more, a cryptic tweet by Jared Leto recently fueled speculation that a sequel is already in the works. The tweet included a photo of Leto making the peace sign, which some fans interpreted as the star signaling the number two instead, as a way of tacitly confirming Morbius 2 will happen.

Morbius is available on Digital now and releases on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on June 14.
