Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater explained that Jake Lockley's story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't finished yet.

In an interview with Inverse, Slater discussed Lockley's unknown motives and inevitable return. "Is he going to be a friend? Is he an enemy? I think all those are really exciting questions for whoever takes up the reins," Slater said. "Whoever gets to tell the next Moon Knight story, whether that’s me or someone else, that is an exciting promise. This guy’s story is definitely not done."

In addition to Steven Grant, Jake Lockley is a third alternate personality, or alter, belonging to Marc Spector. The three characters, all played by Oscar Isaac, serve as an avatar to Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon and vengeance. Slater spoke about Jake's relationship with the other characters, explaining, "Marc and Steven are still totally unaware of his existence. We don’t necessarily know, is he good? Is he evil? We know he’s working for Khonshu. We know he has some sort of arrangement. And we know he is definitely more on board with Khonshu’s worldview in terms of punishing evildoers."

Moon Knight, which was released in March 2022 on Disney+, follows Steven Grant, a museum clerk who constantly blacks out and suffers from gaps in his memory. The awkward hero eventually discovers that he is a separate alter cohabiting a body with his creator Marc, a former mercenary with a unique form of dissociative identity disorder. Marc serves Knonshu, doling out vengeance to whoever his master deems worthy. In return, the deity gives him a special super-suit and abilities, creating the hero Moon Knight. After Steven becomes aware of his alternate self and the god he serves, he too is able to create his own form of the suit which resembles the appearance of Mr. Knight.

During Moon Knight, there were moments when both Marc and Steven would black out and wake up to find their adversaries skillfully murdered, hinting at a third alter taking control of the body. Jake's reveal at the end of the series indicates that it was him all along causing the other two alters to simultaneously lose consciousness. At the end of the final episode, Khonshu has Jake kill the series villain Arthur Harrow, played by Ethan Hawke, showing that unlike his alters, the Spanish limo driver is devoutly loyal to the Egyptian god. It is still unknown how long Jake has been coexisting with the other characters and what deeds he has done in the name of vengeance.

Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+.
