Although its title character is known to have a legitimate mental illness, Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater says that the upcoming Disney+/Marvel Studios series will have a more positive message regarding mental health.

While speaking to USA Today, the show's producers stated that they heavily researched the subject and were serious about handling the subject well. Slater himself commented, "Whatever we're putting out there in the universe has to be ultimately good and uplifting and have a positive message about mental health." The series tackling Moon Knight's mental health had previously been alluded to in an earlier synopsis, which called the Fist of Khonshu a "complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder."

Moon Knight's first trailer similarly delved into the character's multiple identities, including a scene where the antihero's alter ego Marc Spector -- in his Steven Grant persona -- asks an unnamed woman on the phone why she called him Marc. A more recent synopsis revealed that Steven Grant learns of his disorder and connection to Marc Spector and that the two must "must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt."

In a recent interview, leading man Oscar Isaac revealed why working on Moon Knight interested him and what convinced him to return to a Marvel project after X-Men: Apocalypse. "Often on these big movies, it can feel like you're building the plane on the runway," Isaac said. "The idea of getting back to 'handmade' films, character studies… I was desperate for that feeling. It felt 'handmade.' And it's the first legitimate Marvel character study since Iron Man. I thought, 'Maybe I can hijack this thing. Maybe this is the chance to do something really fucking nutty on a major stage.'" Ironically, Isaac told Jared Leto -- who will play the titular Marvel antihero in Sony Pictures' Morbius -- that he'd never heard of Moon Knight before he joined the series.

However, regarding Isaac's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor said he wasn't sure if he would ever return to the role, as Moon Knight getting a second season "depends on whether people see the freakin' show first." Isaac added that he liked playing Moon Knight, specifically Steven Grant, going on to say, "I hope I get to visit him again. I love him so much. I feel he's someone real, who lives in the world. It's been a long time since I felt that kind of connection."

Moon Knight arrives on Disney+ March 30.
