Unlike previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars, Moon Knight's Oscar Issac did not sign a massive contract with Marvel Studios, only agreeing to do the six-episode series for Disney+.

"I was in a position—because I wasn't actively looking to get back into something this big—to say, 'This is how I see it, and if you guys don’t see it that way, that's totally okay, but then maybe it's not the right fit,'" Isaac told Variety. "And so I wasn’t afraid that I was going to do the wrong thing."

"I had heard of the golden handcuffs," he added. "That was something that I was reticent about. And luckily, we all agreed that this [show] is what we’re going to focus on. This is the story. And if there's any kind of future, I think it just depends on if people like it, if people want to see more, and if we find a story that's worth telling."

Issac's comments come as Marvel Studios moves away from the massive 6-9-picture deals it had stars such as Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson and Sebastian Stan sign. "That got a lot of attention way back when, with I think Scarlett [Johansson], and [Chris] Hemsworth and [Chris] Evans and Sam Jackson," Marvel Studios President and Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige said. "It varies, project to project, cast to cast. Really, what we want are people that come in, are excited to be in the universe, are excited at the opportunity to do more things, as opposed to being locked into contractual obligations."

Still, just because Issac has not officially signed on for future Moon Knight appearances does not mean the creative team has not thought about ideas for crossovers. "I could see [Marc Spector and Steven Grant, two of Moon Knight's alter egos] driving the characters of the MCU crazy," director Mohamed Diab said. "Marc's speaking to someone with complete seriousness, and suddenly he turns into Steven, or Moon Knight turns into Mr. Knight. I think it would be amazing."

Even Issac himself has thought about his character's MCU future. "The truth, for me, more than the Avengers, is the Midnight Sons. Imagine, with Punisher, Ghost Rider, Daredevil… I think that would be a very interesting group," he said.
