Marc Spector is brought to life on Steve McNiven's cover to Moon Knight #2.

CBR's exclusive cover reveal, featuring artwork by Steve McNiven (Civil WarOld Man Logan) shows a battle-damaged Marc Spector clenching a moon dart in his teeth. The official solicitation teases a threat that comes from within Moon Knight's newly established Midnight Mission, putting the lunar-powered vigilante's "body, mind and very soul on the line."

MOON KNIGHT #2

  • JED MACKAY (W) • ALESSANDRO CAPPUCCIO (A) • Cover by STEVE MCNIVEN
  • VARIANT COVER BY PEACH MOMOKO
  • Moon Knight has established his territory, and the people within it are under the protection of his Midnight Mission. But what happens when those very people are turned into weapons against him? When gangs of elderly residents leave a trail of bizarre violence, Moon Knight must put his body, mind and very soul on the line to get to the bottom of it.

"One of the roles of the Fist of Khonshu is that of priest, and it's that role that Marc is making a pretty loose interpretation of here," Moon Knight writer Jed MacKay told CBR while discussing the origin of the Midnight Mission. "A priest tends to their congregation, and as the renegade priest of an unworthy god, Moon Knight's congregants are the people in his territory who need his help with the things they can't deal with. We have a Moon Knight who is accessible to people, who can be reached, and that presents an opportunity for a procedural format that has been fun to work with."

The new Moon Knight series spins out of the "Age of Khonshu" storyline in Avengers, with Marc Spector vowing to protect wayward travelers who come to his Midnight Mission. Along the way, he deals with new threats and the absence of his god Khonshu, who he imprisoned.

Written by Jed McKay and illustrated by Alessandro Cappuccio with a cover by Steve McNiven, Moon Knight #1 goes on sale July 7 from Marvel Comics.
