WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Moon Knight #3, available now from Marvel Comics.

Marc Spector's return as Moon Knight has quite possibly been his most remarkable yet. After turning his back on his very own patron god and rededicating himself to the roots of the mantle he bears, Moon Knight has found himself under attack by the second of Khonshu's champions. From where the Hunter's Moon is standing, Marc Spector has lost sight of his true purpose and is in dire need of violent correction. Unfortunately for him, Marc Spector's journey from mercenary to missionary has turned him into something greater than even the god they invoke could ever give them.

The Midnight Mission has been quite the undertaking for Marc Spector, but it is one that he has thrown himself into full throttle. So far, he has taken on armies of Vermin, mass mind controllers, and even overly ambitious vampires. This is all just another night's work for Moon Knight, but to Doctor Badr, aka Hunter's Moon, it is an affront to everything they stand for as Fists of Khonshu, with Marc's open acceptance of the newly turned vampire Reese being the worst of them all. It's for that reason the Hunter's Moon finally makes his full presence known to his caped counterpart. During another routine sweep of the city streets, Moon Knight is beaten mercilessly by his opponent despite him not being Badr's primary target. Rather than setting out to break Moon Knight, Hunter's Moon merely wants to help him get back to serving Khonshu as he sees fit. As it turns out, the first step of that is killing the vampires who have found themselves under Moon Knight's protection. Before he can stake Reese or her friends, Moon Knight shows up to stop Hunter's Moon with a baseball bat to the back of the skull.

Moon Knight #3 by Jed MacKay, Alessandro Cappuccio, Rachelle Rosenberg and VC's Cory Petit reveals that Hunter's Moon has been blessed with the "Gift of the Chorus," the memories and skills of every previous Fist of Khonshu. This isn't something that Marc Spector has ever received, instead only having his mind torn to pieces time and time again by Khonshu's influence, but he doesn't need anyone else's mind crowding his head in the first place. As Reese and the other vampires look on in horror, Moon Knight savagely beats Hunter's Moon into the ground while proclaiming that his rival never earned any of the experience he has been imbued with.

Marc Spector, on the other hand, has lived through some of the most grisly moments in the entire Marvel Universe, let alone his own life. He has been twisted by ancient gods and stood firm against the Phoenix Force itself, and none of that was because he had thousands of years of other champions lending him their prowess. As Moon Knight tells Hunter's Moon before he sends him out into the night to lick his wounds, "You're just a doctor dancing in borrowed shoes," which might be the best assessment he's ever made of anyone.

No matter how intimidating or imposing Doctor Badr might be, his zealous dedication to serving Khonshu by the book and without question hasn't left him with much real experience of his own. He might know the rituals and how to throw a punch, but he has never had to fight literal gods or his very own mind. Nothing about Moon Knight is pretty, and Marc Spector has learned how to embrace that without compromising his own mission. Assuming Hunter's Moon wants to keep his status as a recurring character, he should probably just accept that as an absolute fact.
