Disney+ recently dropped a teaser clip for Moon Knight, announcing the arrival of the upcoming series' first official trailer. Amid the many images flashing across the screen, the clip offers a first look at star Ethan Hawke's mysterious villain. The teaser clip sees flashes Hawke's character. In addition, viewers can hear the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe villain seemingly utter to the titular superhero, "There's chaos in you." Audiences can look forward to the release of the full trailer, likely including a better look at Hawke's character, on Jan. 17 during the NFL Super Wild Card game.
Currently, there is only one person outside of the cast and crew of Moon Knight that know the truth of Hawke's villain. The actor previously stated that he revealed everything to his son, explaining that it was almost a necessity, as his son is more familiar with the comic book character. He said, "Whenever I needed to know, like, the backstory behind this god or this character, he's like, 'Ah, Dad! No, no, no, no, let me correct you on that.' So he was my go-to resource."
Though the name and nature of the supervillain is unknown, Hawke mentioned in the past that the character has "a real David Koresh vibe." On the show itself, Hawke teased Moon Knight will feature supernatural elements, including ancient gods. The latter should come as little surprise to fans of the comic book character, who worships the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. Though, it's worth noting that until recently, there was a debate concerning whether or not the god was real or simply an entity resulting from Marc Spector's struggle with mental health.
Star Oscar Isaac, who plays Spector in the show, was the one who approached Hawke to play the unknown supervillain, as explained by Hawke himself. "I heard about it from Oscar Isaac, who lives three blocks down the street from me in Brooklyn," he explained. "I was at a coffee shop and he came up to me. He's like, 'Hey, I really liked The Good Lord Bird.' I was like 'Oh, cool, yeah, I really like your work. You're amazing.' He's like 'Hey, want to be in Moon Knight with me?' I was like (shrugs) 'Yeah.'"
It is currently unknown when Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+, though previous reports suggested the series will debut on March 30. This has yet to be confirmed by an official source.
