Ethan Hawke took a quick break from filming Moon Knight to discuss his involvement in the series and where the inspiration for his character came from.

During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host commented that Hawke's long hair and glasses gave him "a real David Koresh vibe." Hawke responded that he did, in fact, base his character on Koresh. "I guess it's working," the actor said, astonished by Meyers' perceptiveness. "You're good, Seth. Or maybe I'm not out of character yet...I will say that he is the source of great character inspiration." Koresh was the leader of the Branch Davidians religious cult, famously involved in the Waco siege of 1993.

As of this writing, it's unknown what character Hawke is playing in Moon Knight. It can be inferred that he will be a cult leader of some sort, with Hawke saying in the interview, "We're conjuring ancient gods and we're fighting for good and evil and it's very exciting." A behind-the-scenes photo from the show's set in Budapest features Hawke wearing a dapper tan suit and carrying a walking stick.

Hawke's involvement in Moon Knight was confirmed this past January. He spoke of his casting in the interview, saying "I heard about it from Oscar Isaac, who lives three blocks down the street from me in Brooklyn. I was at a coffee shop and he came up to me. He's like, 'Hey, I really liked The Good Lord Bird.' I was like 'Oh, cool, yeah, I really like your work. You're amazing.' He's like 'Hey, want to be in Moon Knight with me?' I was like (shrugs) 'Yeah.' So it happened the right way, you know?"

A veteran of independent cinema, Hawke also discussed what sets Moon Knight apart from other projects he's worked on. "One of the first things that made it unlike anything I've ever done before is I had to sign, like, 10,000 NDA's about what I would and would not say, which I've never done," he said. "I'll tell you this about it: I've been acting since I was 13. Like I did my first movie in 1985, okay? And that's a long time ago. And these are the best sets I've ever been on in my life. The costume, the set, the production design, the cinematography, all those elements are kind of mind-boggling. So I have entered some alternate universe and it is kind of interesting."

Moon Knight will stream on Disney+. It doesn't yet have a release date.
