Moon Knight almost had a major crossover with Eternals.

Speaking to The Direct, Jeremy Slater, who served as the head writer and executive producer on Marc Spector's live-action debut, said he tried to include several Eternals in the Disney+ series. "I tried very hard to get the Eternals into the show, just because I’m buddies with Kumail Nanjiani… I want[ed] some Kingo," Slater said. The writer went on to describe how they would have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series, elaborating that they would have served as a cold open to one of Moon Knight's episodes. "At one point, there was a flashback on the page that sort of showed one of Khonshu’s Avatars back in ancient Egypt, sort of dealing with Ammit being locked away, and Alexander the Great, and all of that stuff. You sort of saw this Avatar team-up with the Eternals."

While Slater said the scene was a fun crossover with the broader MCU, he clarified that it was eventually cut because it would have been too expensive to shoot. "It hurt, but it was also the right thing to do for the show, and I think everyone sort of collectively agreed," Slater explained. "There’s plenty of time in the future to team this guy up with other characters in the MCU and start building these connections; let's not force something just because the other shows have all had it."

While Moon Knight sets up the Fist of Khonshu in the MCU, the series notably featured very few references to other characters within Marvel Studios' ever-growing universe. Beyond a mention of Madripoor, a location fans recognized from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the first episode of the show includes two fleeting nods to both Thor and Black Panther. Two reference books piled on Steven Grant's desk are titled What's Old Is New Again: Asgard and History of Wakanda.

Now that Moon Knight has concluded, fans are already beginning to question when they'll next see Marc Spector in the MCU. Star Oscar Isaac recently debunked speculation that Marvel Studios was developing a second season of the show, describing the project as a limited series. This lines up with Disney's decision to submit Moon Knight under the Best Limited Series category at the Primetime Emmy Awards, casting further doubt on a sequel series.

Both Moon Knight and Eternals are available on Disney+.
