This article contains spoilers for Moon Knight: Black, White, and Blood #4, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Moon Knight: Black, White, and Blood #4 contains the story “The Scent of Blood” (by Nadia Shammas, Dante Bastianoni, and Chris Sotomayor), which introduces a new concept to the Fist of Khonshu. While fighting a group of cultists, Moon Knight (aka Marc Spector) comes face to face with an Egyptian god he has never met before, Shesmu, who expresses an interest in becoming Spector's new patron.

Shesmu is a lion-headed god depicted in Egyptian mythology as the god of contradictions. On one hand, he’s the god of oils, perfumes and festivities. On the other hand, he’s also the god of blood, believed to be powerful enough to dismember the other gods. Moon Knight tends to be a merciless fighter, and Shesmu is attracted to the vigilante's skill in the area of violence and bloodshed.

Marc is not keen on the idea of another god having control over him, so he declines Shesmu’s offer, and forces him out of his mind. However, it’s interesting to consider how a partnership between this alternate god and Marc would look. Shesmu makes a statement about how Khonshu’s blood would fill him, and he’d feast on his flesh. In Egyptian mythology, the lion-headed god has the ability to dismember the other gods, so he would most likely take Khonshu off the board before becoming Marc’s official patron. Khonshu’s presence and powers would leave Marc’s body, and Shesmu would bestow him with new abilities.

Shesmu offered to make Marc his prophet, so it can be assumed that the ability of foresight could come as a package deal with his new patron. Spector's strength would also likely increase as a reflection of Shesmu's power among the other gods. On the downside, Marc might be compelled to commit brutal acts in the name of his patron instead of fighting for justice, making this partnership even deadlier than his existing pact with Khonshu.

However, if Shesmu were to coexist in Marc's mind alongside Khonshu, perhaps Spector would become an even greater force to reckon with. Shesmu could potentially amplify the abilities given to the vigilante by Khonshu, and even add a few unique abilities of his own, making the former Avenger even more formidable in his quest for justice and vengeance.

The possibility of introducing a second deity to Spector's life is interesting, but may not be plausible for Moon Knight. He already struggles with mental health issues and DID, and adding another persona to his already troubled mind could well be a recipe for disaster. While Marc could become more powerful, the addition of another patron could shatter his delicate psyche, making the addition of the new deity more of a hindrance than an actual help.
