The upcoming animated adaptation of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur just released its first trailer, which announces an early 2023 premiere date.
On Sept. 10, 2022, the Marvel HQ YouTube channel posted a teaser trailer for the upcoming Disney animated series ahead of its February arrival on the Disney Channel. The trailer arrives nearly two months after an initial preview clip for Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur had hit. The incredibly fast-paced and punchy trailer features vibrant colors, a comic book art style, a look into Moon Girl's social life and even previews of the show's upcoming villains.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is an adaptation of the comic series of the same name, which follows the eccentric duo from the books. Lunella Lafayette, aka Moon Girl, is canonically the smartest person on Earth, as confirmed by The Hulk. The series has aged Moon Girl up to 13 years old and seems to have moved her on to high school. She lives with a large, supportive family and is accompanied by her "manager and best friend" Casey as well as Devil Dinosaur himself.
Devil Dinosaur was created by Jack Kirby for the comic sharing his name in 1978, where he teamed up with the ape-like Moon Boy. In the short-lived series, the duo had various adventures in Dinosaur World, an alternate version of Earth where dinosaurs and other ancient creatures coexist with primitive human-like beings. The cult classic series only ran for nine months, after which Devil Dinosaur was mostly relegated to one-shot cameos and references in other works until his return in 2015.
Moon Girl made her debut on Nov. 25, 2015 with Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1, where she took the place of Moon Boy after he was slain by the Killer Folk. After the death of his companion, Devil Dinosaur is transported to modern-day New York from the Savage Lands. In this version, Moon Girl is only nine years old and is also an Inhuman, whereas in the animated series Devil Dinosaur will reportedly arrive as the result of Moon Girl's experimentation with time travel, and no information has been revealed about her status as an Inhuman or if Moon Boy will make any sort of appearance.
Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will premiere on the Disney Channel on Feb. 10, 2023.
