All this month I'll be reviewing different comic books by female creators, based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here's a list of all the books featured so far this month.

I apologize for no comic yesterday. The blog had server issues when I was trying to make my post and it never got through. I'll just do two today.

So we continue with Niki Smith's Your Hair #1...

This a simple but gorgeous short story about two women who are drifting apart from each other. One seems too caught up in her work to even notice that she is pushing her girlfriend away. The distant girlfriend's hair becomes the symbol of their distance. First, the fact that the distant girlfriend recoils when the other one tries to run her fingers through her hair and later, when she debates cutting the hair, not knowing what her hair symbolizes to her girlfriend...

Smith's art is beautiful and lush. She tells the story very well - I love the clever usage of the nine panel grid, all leading, of course, to one dramatic single panel at the end. Really well done.

You can buy the comic from her site here.
